Duke staff and faculty visited Governor Roy Cooper this week to present a $51,000 Doing Good in the Neighborhood donation from Duke employees to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. The contribution will go toward Hurricane Matthew relief efforts.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was awarded a four-year, $1.5 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for an initiative designed to integrate the humanities into UNC’s broader curriculum and foster new humanities-related avenues of public engagement.

Raleigh Little Theatre received major-gifts, raising over $740,000 from 39 individuals and eight institutions to improve accessibility and technology throughout its campus.

The Asheville Merchants Fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina awarded $405,000 in grants to nine Buncombe County nonprofit organizations to fund projects designed to strengthen the community.

The Joey Lagano Foundation made a donation of $20,000 to Victory Junction to fund 8 camperships on July 5th.

Triangle Land Conservancy and Chatham Cider Works hosted a Bushel for Brumley apple gleaning at Brumley Nature Preserve on July 15th. For every 8 pounds of apples gathered, Chatham Cider works donated $2 to Triangle Land Conservancy.

Durham Rescue Mission moved Wanda Stuart into the first tiny home for Habitat for Humanity in Durham on July 7th.

Raleigh Arts exhibit Granite in Reverse appeared on July 14th at Market Plaza.

Raleigh Little Theatre presented a reading of “Downrage: Voices from the Homefront” on July 10th.

The Historic Stagville Jubilee Music Festival took place on July 15th in Durham offering traditional music for all visitors to enjoy.

The Duke Endowment named Gillian Small as their new fellow. Gillian previously worked for Teach for America as an eighth grade English teacher at Whitewater Middle School in Charlotte.
