On September 7th, the Urban Resource Institute received a $10,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation in support of its economic empowerment programs.

The JPB Foundation, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Kresge Foundation and The Rockefeller Foundation are investing a total of $20 million, to be matched by $20 million from local sources, to support Reimagining the Civic Commons, a new national initiative to foster civic engagement, economic opportunity and environmental sustainability. 

The Aetna Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in community grants to 23 nonprofit organizations as part of its Cultivating Healthy Communities initiative, promoting healthy eating and active living.

Hyperbiotics completed its Dollar for Dollar Challenge Grant on August 31st, to help Bumi Sehat complete its new health clinic in Bali, Indonesia, enabling the nonprofit to expand services to approximately 1500 gentle births per year.

Parkland’s Wall of Heroes, supported by Southwest Transplant Alliance, hosted an event recognizing organ donors and their families on September 9th at Parkland.

9.19.16 Standing Rock Sioux Tribe_RevisedA Shareholder Advocacy Leadership Training workshop was hosted September 8th at the Bismarck Civic Center in North Dakota to empower the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (SRST) and other tribes in demanding that the market capture all environmental and social costs of the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline. First Peoples Worldwide joined SRST to protest the pipeline.

Iraq war veteran Zachary Sherman will be riding his Honda throught September from Deadhorse, Alaska to Ushuaia Terro Del Fuego, Argentina to raise public awareness about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and raise money for The Soldiers Project

On September 8th, Leading Edge released a new report detailing the results of the largest-ever survey of Jewish nonprofit employees. 

Stand Up To Cancer hosted a one-hour televised special- “More Stars Stand Up To Cancer”- with an appearance by Vice President Joe Biden on September 9th.

State Street Corporation was listed on the Boston Business Journal’s 2016 Top Charitable Comapanies in Massachusettes for the $15 million investments in education and workforce development by the State Street Foundation.

The Contemporary Jewish Museum announced the appointment of Mark Reisbaum as Chief Philanthropy Officer effective September 26th. 

Herbalife held the 11th annual D.C. Nation’s Triathlon on September 11th, in Washington D.C.; proceeds benefited the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Art of Elysium announced Stevie Wonder as the 2017 visionary for the 10th annual “HEAVEN” fundraiser and Camilla Belle as awardee of the Spirit of Elysium Award.

The Ruderman Family Foundation applauded the Ford Foundation’s September 12th, announcement that it will recognize people with disabilities into its definition of those battling inequality, including in their grant making. 

The Cummings organization landed in the top spot on Boston Business Journal’s list of Largest Corporate Charitable Contributors in Massachusetts.  Joyce Vyriotes, associate executive director of Cummings Foundation, gave an acceptance speech at an event celebrating this year’s most philanthropic companies.

WHEELS UP CARES supported Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September with the first-ever teal Beechcraft King Air 350i joining the Wheels Up fleet benefiting the Janet Burros Memorial Foundation.

The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley will honor the Cervantez family for their continued commitment to advocating for the rights of immigrants, on October 22nd, at the 26th Annual Hispanic Foundation Ball where they will be given the La Familia Award.

Move America Forward will be collecting unused or unwanted gift cards in order to sponsor care packages to the men and women in the military.

CYCLE Kids

Applications to run the 2017 Boston Marathon with CYCLE Kids will be accepted until November 10th.

The Genesis Prize Foundation and the Jewish Funders Network launched “Breaking Barriers”, a matching grant program in honor of 2016 Genesis Prize Laureate Itzhak Perlman on September 12th; the initiative will promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of Jewish communal life.

The Detroit Friendship House will host its 11th Annual Golf Outing on September 24th, at the Woodlands of Van Buren in Wayne, Michigan.

On September 20th, people everywhere will be able to spread the word about neuroblastoma by posting dance videos of 20 seconds or more to social media using #20forHope, tag @cncfhope and their followers, and invite them to donate online and share their own dance videos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation.
