State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation Board Chair McKinley Wooten, Jr. and NC Association of Feeding America Food Banks Executive Director Alan Briggs have signed a $1.2 million Agreement that will provide North Carolinians in need with 6 million additional meals over the next 3 years. The grant from SECU’s members via their Foundation will add 2 million meals per year to clients served by North Carolina food banks – that’s one extra meal per year funded by each of the Credit Union’s 2 million members.

Smith Anderson Partner Kirk Warner has recently been elected the 102nd president of the Rotary Club of Raleigh. Dedicated to serving the local and international community, the Club is engaged in a variety of projects, including the Rotary Club of Raleigh Dental Clinic located at the Salvation Army.
The Duke Endowment has named Will Jones as this 2015-2017 Fellow. Jones holds an undergraduate degree in environmental science. He will participate in hands-on grantmaking and site visits.
Glenn Green, a 12 year old Pioneer Scholars student of the Emily K Center has been hired to work at McKinney, an advertising agency, as an intern after Emily K. posted via Facebook his career goals statement on becoming an art director. He was hired in July to work on the 2015 Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands.
Community Foundation of Henderson County (CFHC) welcomes three new members to its Board of Directors. Elisa Jarrin, Betsy Lutz, and Judith Stroud will join the CRHC Board to make final decisions on grants and support charitable and educational work.
Congressman David Price kicked off Health Center Week in Raleigh by recognizing several major initiatives that are transforming the nonprofit Community Health Center. Additionally, Wake Health Services will change its name to Advance Community Health to represent communities served beyond Wake County.

The Green Chair Project, whose mission is to renew the lives of Wake County citizens recovering from homelessness, crisis or disaster by providing access to reused, refurbished and recycled furniture and household items, has reached a milestone of serving 1,000 families.
Urban Ministries of Wake County has partnered with PDQ Wake Forest and PDQ Fall of Neuse to collect canned goods which will run until August 31. Urban Ministries request nonperishables low in sodium, fat, and sugars to promote wellness.
August 1st, Passage Home and the J.D. Lewis Center, welcomed several National Basketball Association players for an All-Star Exhibition basketball game as part of their Building a Strong Raleigh Together campaign.
August 11 from 7 am to 10 pm, HomeStart, Inter-Faith Council for Social Services‘ residential facility for women and children experiencing homelessness, has been selected to be the beneficiary of a Whole Foods Market Five Percent Donation Day. The Whole Foods Community giving day will take place at 81 South Elliot Road in Chapel Hill.
The next Artists’ Salon, sponsored by the Orange County Arts Commission, will be held on Friday, August 21. August’s topic will be on tax issues that face artists. Guest presented will be Alex Lehmann.
The 38th Annual Miller Amateur Golf Tournament at Glen Oaks Golf Club will be held on September 11-13. Family Care Center will be the recipient of proceeds from this event.
Heart Math Tutoring – a nonprofit group dedicated to helping disadvantaged students develop math skills and academic confidence – is recruiting volunteer tutors for the 2015/16 school year and is asking for the community’s support. Its goal is to recruit volunteers to be tutors for 350 students between now and Sept. 17.
The North Carolina Museum of History seeks volunteer docents. Please register for an interview by September 14 as training will take place from mid-September until December 7.

NC Harm Reduction Coalition‘s Overdose Prevention Project celebrated its second year and 766 lives saved on August 1. The initiative provides life-saving medicine naloxone directly to people with high risk for overdose and their families.
The Durham Rescue Mission sponsored Golden Belt Neighborhood’s National Night Out 2015 on August 4th. This free event for residents of the Colden Belt Neighborhood in Durham all residents to enjoy food, music and connect neighbors.
Seven Boy Scouts of Chapel Hill formed Bike Loud to honor a schoolmate, Sophie Steiner who died of cancer in 2013, in efforts to raise awareness and funds for teen cancer programs by bike riding across the country. Be Loud! Sophie Foundation was formed to support teen cancer programs at UNC Hospitals and Bike Loud will donate proceeds to Be Loud!. The Scouts began in Florence, Oregan with a destination of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and so far have traveled almost 3,000 of the 3,900 miles.
Ronald’s Racers, a Triangle-based race team that builds and races cars in order to raise funds and awareness for local Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) participated in the Chump Car World Series 24-hour endurance race on August 8 and 9 at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, VA.Ronald’s Racers was formed in 2011 and has raised over $35,000 for the Chapel Hill and Durham RMHC.

Female philanthropists from across the country will gather in Charlotte this fall as the Women’s Collective Giving Grantmakers Network (WCGN) will hold its 2015 National Leadership Forum October 15-17, 2015, at the Ballantyne Resort Hotel. WCGN is the national umbrella group for collective giving funds like Charlotte’s Women’s Impact Fund across the US.
Thruway Center partnered with the American Heart Association and Go Red For Women to turn Thruway Center RED for a day of heart health, prevention education, shopping and fun for the whole family on August 8. Thruway Center merchants offered special promotions and all proceeds went to benefit women’s heart health.
Yadkin Riverkeeper‘s Second Annual Clean Water Weekend will host the nation’s largest environmental film festival of its kind – The Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Tour on September 25th until September 27th. Members of the Yadkin Riverkeeper can receive an early bird discount until August 10th.

Activate Good will host 50 service projects and encourages individuals interested in becoming involved to register beginning on August 17th and groups wanting to adopt a project to email Activate Good to take part in the 9/11 Day of Service project. Following, an Evening Commemoration featuring family-friendly service projects will end the day of volunteerism.
The Triangle Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals has opened nominations for the National Philanthropy Day Award. Nominations are due September 18 and the winners will be announced on November 5.
The Triangle Literacy Council will host its 5th annual Read to Succeed BBQ Feed on October 10th. All proceeds will support the Triangle Literacy Council’s free reading, writing and life skills programs for adults, families, and at-risk youth.

WomenNC‘s 2016 Commission on the Status of Women Fellowship is now open for university students in the Triangle area. The deadline is August 31.
Golden LEAF Scholarships are now available for students from qualifying counties who are attending the state’s participating community colleges. Scholarships provide up to $250 per semester for students enrolling in occupational programs and up to $750 per semester for curriculum students, including summer term.
