Ten laureates received a total of US$ 500,000 across six categories at the Aga Khan Music Awards in Lisbon, Portugal.

With support of $40 million (365 million SEK) over a four-year period from Sweden, Sida is partnering with DKT International to improve the knowledge, demand, availability, and access to quality sexual and reproductive health products and services in 21 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

On March 21st, BirdLife International marked the International Day of Forests with the launch of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber. This independent platform will lead to improvements in the socio-economic and environmental performance of the natural rubber value chain.

DKT International released its 2018 global impact data. This data shows that through innovative social marketing of contraceptive products and services, DKT delivered 44.6 million couple-years of protection (CYPs), the total estimated protection provided by contraceptives in a one-year period – an increase of 8 million CYPs more than in 2017.

Graduate Women International (GWI) awarded 2019 GWI fellowships and awards to eight young women. The fellowship and award programs of GWI and their affiliates make it possible for women graduates to complete significant research in many important fields directly related to GWI priority interests.

Open Medicine Foundation has funded the establishment of a third Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) Collaborative Research Center at Uppsala University in Sweden. This new Collaborative Center focuses on the targeted molecular diagnosis of ME/CFS with the goal of evidence-based strategies for interventions.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Institute of International Education, in collaboration with the Fulbright Foundation in Greece, invite Greek scholars to apply for the Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program. Selected fellows will have the opportunity to conduct research, mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research, and design new curricula, furthering collaborative academic exchange among Greek scholars worldwide.

mothers2mothers launched Children and Adolescents are My Priority (CHAMP) – a new program in Mpumalanga, South Africa. CHAMP aims to reach 57,000 orphans and other vulnerable children and adolescents per year, of those – a fifth will be children and adolescents living with HIV.

Emergency teams with the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières have started medical response activities in flood-affected parts of Mozambique following Cyclone Idai.

Following Cyclone Idai, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has launched a website for people to mark themselves as safe and to search for loved ones who may have done the same. Because many of the affected areas remain without power or access to the internet, the ICRC is working with the national Red Cross societies in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe to set up systems to register and search for missing people including unaccompanied and separated children.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is partnering with long-term AWC supporters Julian and Alexandra Burt to deliver land management (controlled burning, feral animal control and weed eradication) and science across Bullo River Station in Australia’s remote Northern Territory. This partnership will help protect a suite of threatened, and also has the potential to be a catalytic model for wider application on commercial pastoral land.

While the scope of the work that MDC does is vast, ultimately what it does is identify people and communities in need, and then align resources and infrastructure in order for the people and communities to be successful. In working with leadership, infrastructure and institutions, MDC is making permanent change in institutions or systems that will continue long after they are gone.
