United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County has made $111,223 available to 122 Wake County schools to bring in teaching artists during the 2017/18 school year for performances, workshops, and residencies that integrate the arts with core subjects.

GreenHill received $5,000 from PNC to continue to expand the reach of free Family Night. Family Night is a program offered each Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. where families are able to participate in all of the activities provided during GreenHill’s open studio hours free of charge.

The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce held a First Responders Breakfast on September 2oth to honor first responders across Raleigh and Wake County. 

HandsOn Northwest North Carolina partnered with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps team as part of their 10th Anniversary celebration, which features a series of community service projects hosted by local nonprofits on September 19th.

Marbles Kids Museum purchased the former Longleaf School of the Arts at 207 E. Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh, adjacent to the museum’s central courtyard to expand the museum in the future. 

CWS Refugee and Immigration Program their 10K Strong Block Party on September 23rd in Durham.

Chowan University Board of Trustees announced that Dr. M. Christopher White will transition from the role of President of Chowan University to Chancellor at the end of the academic year. Dr. White will have served Chowan as president for 15 years, a period of the institution’s most significant growth.

Three North Carolina PTA  North Carolina PTAs were named National PTA Schools of Excellence for the 2017-19 school years: J.Y. Joyner Magnet Elementary School PTA, New Town Elementary School PTA, and Sternberger Elementary School PTA. 

ReCity Network and Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of the Triangle will partner to impact Triangle-area nonprofit leaders and the constituents they serve. ReCity Network will host YNPN Triangle professional development events at its event space located in downtown Durham.

Student Action with Farmworkers hosted their orientation retreat, the event included SAF Solidaridad interns and Levante Youth learning about farmworker issues, anti-oppression work and the inner workers of the organization. 

The Barnabas Network hosted a Grab Bag fundraiser at Once Upon a Child in Greensboro on September 23rd. 

SHIFT NC has selected Traci L. Baird, former executive vice president for programs at Ipas, as its next chief executive officer. Baird will take the helm at the organization following a year under the leadership of Interim CEO Janeen Gingrich.

The inaugural Carry the Water 5K, Fun Run, and One-Mile Walk took place on September 23rd at the Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh. All of the proceeds from the event benefited Global Hope India and Dynamic Water’s clean water projects in India.

The Mint Museum opened its exhibit on the costume designs of William Ivey Long, the exhibit will run until June 3rd, 2018. 

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will hold a screening of Twister on September 29th as part of its Last Friday Series. The event will include tornado-themed science stations and a talk from Brice Coffer, a research in the COnvective Storms Group at NC State University

Operation North State is hosting the Anglers’ Casting Hope Challenge from September 29th to October 6th for NC’s wounded warriors and DVets. 

Durham Independent Dance Artists will launch their fourth season with a performance and party at Unscripted Durham on October 7th in Durham. 

The Orange County Arts Commission and Hillsborough Arts Council will how a county-wide plein air paint out and wet paint sale from October 25th to October 27th. 

The Guilford Nonprofit Consortium will hold an Executive Director Roundtable on Sustainability through Diverse Fundraising on September 29th in Greensboro. 

The North Carolina Planned Giving Council will hold a member meeting on November 29th at Winston-Salem State University focusing on Philanthroculture.

The Power of the Dream will hold an upcoming workshop for adults with autism and/or intellectual disabilities and those who work with adults with autism and/or developmental disabilities on September 30th at the Cameron Village Regional Library in Raleigh.  

St. Augustine’s University and the City of Raleigh’s Office of Raleigh Arts will sponsor the “ENVISION Saint Agnes” art exhibit from September 27th-January 5th, 2018. Thirty percent of all exhibition sales will go toward creating a student designed public artwork that acknowledges St. Agnes Hospital.
