Museum of Life and Science has been granted $450,000 from Biogen Foundation for hands-on science programming. This expanded collaboration between the Museum and the Biogen Foundation will serve more than 52,000 people a year through innovative programs and expanded hours for the Lab at the Museum, take hands-on learning into the community with a new mobile science van, and support collaborative projects including summer camp scholarships and community programming.

The Winston-Salem Foundation is partnering with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools in a 5 year, $2 million dollar commitment to support local educators. The Peer Project Partnership, aims to improve reading, graduation rates, and the achievement gaps and performance students.

NC GreenPower has selected East Columbus High School in Columbus County, Meadowview Magnet Middle School in Surry County, and New Bern High School in Craven County as recipients for their pilot program to provide matching grants for the installation of a solar PV array at schools. A fourth school will be announced at a later date.

NC Community Development Initiative congratulates 26 rising seniors who completed the Initiative’s 2015 Youth Leadership Program and were recognized at a luncheon ceremony July 30. Each completed a six-week internship with a high-performing community organization and a series of leadership-building activities.

Wednesday, September 9th, the Boston Foundation‘s Paul Grogan will speak at the Duke Sanford Center for Strategic Philanthropy and Civil Society as a part of the Foundation Impact Research Group (FIRG) seminars. FIRG seminars explore the relationship between strategic choice-making and impact measurement in foundations and not-for-profit organizations.

WakeEd Partnership‘s Stars of Education Awards Gala is October 14th including honorees such as Harvey Schmitt, Valerie Brown Schild, Tom Oxholm, Marshall Butler, Bobby Guthrie, Nita Fulbright, and Gary Greene. The largest WakedEd fundraiser,proceeds will benefit the Wake County Public School System.

Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced its volunteer leadership team for the 2016 partnership year with Kidznotes. Christina Coffey, Bo Heath and Cari Swann will serve as event co-chairs in the year-long lead up to its annual event that has produced as much as $2 million in net proceeds for the community.

Liam, a 14 year old Wake County resident with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, was honored on Wednesday, September 2 at a Wish Party hosted by Zaxby’s and Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina. Zaxby’s helped grant Liam’s wish to have a backyard batting cage along with the assistance of Alliance Landscapes LLC, LA Downey & Sons, Inc. and Arbormax Tree Services.

The Association for Fundraising Professionals NC Triad Chapter will hold its chapter meeting Tuesday, September 29th at 11:30 am. There will be a focus on networking best practices lead by Sheila Virgil.

Friday, November 20, the Lucy Daniels Center will celebrate it’s 25th anniversary with a night of food and art. Expressions V., A Celebration of Food and Art will be held at the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary and feature artist Beverly McIver. This event will help support children’s mental health.

Activate Good A Day of ServiceIn memory of those lost on September 11, 2001, Activate Good will support 9/11 a Day of Service by helping those in the Triangle become involved in acts of kindness and volunteerism. During the day, they will host service projects and in the evening, commemorate the day with live music at Red Hat Amphitheater.

Latin Music Series Mint MuseumThe Mint Museum of Charlotte begins its Latin Music 4 part concert series on September 17th. The  Latin Music Concert Series seeks to showcase different rhythms from Latin America, highlighting the talents of local musicians from the Latin American community.

In celebration of Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month during September, Food Lion Feeds will donate more than 1,200 service hours and more than 1 million meals through its inaugural “The Great Pantry Makeover” event. During the month-long volunteer service event, hundreds of Food Lion associates will volunteer at 38 local food pantries, which will help the grocer take another step toward its commitment of providing 500 million meals by the end of 2020.

The 38th Annual Miller Lite Amateur Golf Tournament will be held at Glen Oaks Golf Club on September 11-13, 2015. Family Care Center is the recipient of proceeds from this annual golf tournament. Proceeds will help continue to carry out the Family Care Center’s mission.

Habitat for Humanity Asheville

Friday August 28th, Volunteers and donors from Asheville Area Habitat for Huamnity’s longest-standing partnerships joined on the construction site in West Asheville to break bread together and share in the start of three faith-community sponsored houses. The start of the 24th Habitat house partially sponsored by a coalition of Presbyterian and United Methodist churches, as well as the 17th house partially sponsored by a coalition of various faith communities known as the Interfaith House, were also a source of celebration that day.

August 31st marked International Overdose Awareness Day, and the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition along with The Carrack Modern celebrated the day with an open mic night. The open mic night was open to the public and allowed participants to share their stories, experiences, and other forms of art.
