Code for America received $2 million in new funding for its national Brigade network from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The support will help expand the network over the next 2 years, building on Knight’s early support of the initiative.
The James & Alice B. Clark Foundation has instantaneously funded all current Washington, D.C., classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. In addition to the current requests, the Foundation will match donations to new D.C. projects submitted on DonorsChoose.org.
The Aetna Foundation awarded a $250,000 grant to advance diversity and inclusion at Harvard Medical School. The new grant will bolster a diversity fund that supports multiple programs designed to tackle the lack of diversity among medical professionals, including STEM education programs for K-12 students, support for underrepresented minority medical students and faculty development opportunities.
Becton Dickinson and Company and the National Association of Community Health Centers are awarding five community health centers with grants for a total of $1 million to extend programs that will help patients manage their medications and courses of treatment. Each of the following centers will receive $200,000: Baldwin Family Health Centers, Baldwin, Michigan; Consejo de Salud de Puerto Rico, Ponce, Puerto Rico; The Dimock Center, Roxbury, Massachusetts; Queens Care Health Centers, Los Angeles, California; Santa Rosa Community Health, Santa Rosa, California.
KORE Foundation received a grant for $1,800,000.00 from W.K. Kellogg Foundation to increase income generating opportunities and food security in the Centre Department of Haiti.
The Hillcrest Foundation has committed $1 million to help create a new comprehensive breast center at Parkland Health & Hospital System, joining generous donors throughout the community who have raised $36 million for the project.
In 2018 Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) has awarded 142 foundation-managed scholarships totaling more than $763,000. Annually, SVCF administers more than 45 scholarship programs, and has awarded more than $15.9 million to students since 2007.

Salesforce.org, in conjunction with Dreamforce, will present its ninth annual Concert for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals fundraiser on Wednesday, September 26, featuring a live performance by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy-award winning rock band Metallica at Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco.
Tuesday’s Children will hold its annual “Rise Up For Resilience” Gala in New York on September 13. The evening will honor the National Football League for its support of Tuesday’s Children, and the U.S. Navy’s Gold Star Program for its work to help families who have lost a member while on active duty.
