The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) disaster relief teams on the ground in Texas and Florida are providing food and water, direct financial assistance, vaccinations, and behavioral health support through the IAFF Disaster Relief Fund for fire fighters responding to Hurricanes Irma and Harvey.

Twelve funders, in partnership with local hospitals, are contributing $13 million to 19 communities in 12 states across the United States as a part of the BUILD Health Challenge to support innovative community-led health interventions aiming to address the root causes of today’s most pressing health challenges.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Kiely Family of Companies and their team members donated a collection of backpacks, pencils, markers, crayons and other school supplies on September 13th to the 2017 ‘Stuff the Bus’ Drive, sponsored by the United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Capital Bank, National Association employees are tracking donations made by cardholders of the OpenSky Secured Visa Credit Card to the American Red Cross disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief efforts and matching them up to $20,000 total.

The Cornell Alliance for Science is launching a “$10M-by-2020” campaign seeded with a $6.4 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help ensure broad access to agricultural innovation, especially among small-holder farmers in developing nations.

Through a new grant from Democracy Fund, the Center for Democracy & Technology will conduct a two-year research project aimed at addressing key election cyber-security issues, such as voter registration and campaign data management.

The Jewish Communal Fund approved grants totaling $1.35 million to local Jewish charities in the New York area through its endowment, the JCF Special Gifts Fund. These charities were selected with the assistance of UJA-Federation of New York.

This month the United Nations Foundation celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Founded by Ted Turner on September 18th, 1997, the Foundation has leveraged Mr. Turner’s initial $1 billion donation to support the work of the United Nations, including efforts to eradicate malaria and polio, to support the rights and well-being of adolescent girls, and to provide energy access to remote corners of the world. 

On September 19th, GreaterGood.org will celebrate its 10-year anniversary, and in celebration of this event, the organization encourages people to give $10 to a program they are passionate about to show that small acts can have great impact.

The Philanthropic Initiative will be sponsoring and attending the 2017 National Forum on Family Philanthropy in Washington D.C. on October 18th-20th.

Fidelity Charitable is collaborating with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to provide lists of organizations providing relief services for Hurricanes Irma and Harvey for grant recommendations. 

Jewish Studies scholars Elissa Bemporad, Noah Benjamin Bickart, and Edna Friedberg have been selected to make up the next cohort of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) Fellows. The fellows will serve a two-year term and support JTS’s mission by offering programs in their home communities.

Seven central Indiana residents were selected as winners of the American Heart Association’s “Real People. Real Change.” program sponsored by UnitedHealthcare. The recipients’ employers each received a $1,000 grant from UnitedHealthcare in support of their employee wellness programs.

On September 16th, Grimmway Schools celebrated the culmination of a goal set years ago with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony presenting Grimmway Academy Shafter. The new campus in Shafter was funded partly through an investment from NewSchools Venture Fund and is modeled after Grimmway Academy Arvin.

The Green Beret Foundation hosted their 3rd Annual Cincinnati Classic Reception, Silent & Live Auction and Dinner on Sunday, September 17. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Green Beret Foundation’s mission to support the United States Special Forces.

Schools can register now for Keep America Beautiful‘s national in-school recycling competition for K-12 schools, Recycle-Bowl, which begins on October 16th.

The Philanthropic Initiative will be sponsoring and attending the 2017 National Forum on Family Philanthropy in Washington D.C. on October 18th-20th.

Keep America Beautiful and the Environmental Research & Education Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines an agreement to join efforts on quantifying food waste in K-12 schools and the organizations’ aim to provide tools and resources that help reduce school-based food waste.

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation and the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund have created a Hurricane Relief Fund specifically to provide financial support to SAG-AFTRA members affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The organizations seeded the Hurricane Relief Fund with $400,000 and are accepting additional contributions and donations.

Bowlmor AMF is raising funds at more than 300 centers nationwide with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross‘ disaster relief services. The organization will match donations up to $50,000.

During its annual Clinical Connections Summit held September 13th-14th, Vizient, Inc. partnered with the Huggies No Baby Unhugged initiative to donate 10,000 diapers to The Bottom Line diaper bank in Denver.

On September 16th, nine-year-old Khloe Thompson, founder of Khloe Kares, crossed the 1,000th Kare Bag milestone totaling over 2,000 months worth of hygienic care to the homeless community. 

At the Climate Education & Opportunities Collective Impact Summit in Sundance, Utah, Executive Director Nicole Rom presented Climate Generation’s work as an example of an organization working across and in multiple sectors leading to measurable impact.
