The Hollywood Foreign Press Association celebrated its annual Grants Banquet at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on August 13th. During the star-studded event, the organization presented more than $2 million in funds to non-profit entertainment related organizations, foundations, and scholarship programs.

The Citi Foundation and America’s Promise Alliance have been selected as recipients of the Youth Opportunity Fund, a $3 million initiative to support city-level, innovative and scalable programs connecting more than 3,500 youth to opportunities that increase their employability and prepare them for lifelong success. The Youth Opportunity Fund is part of the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative, designed to support direct-service programs that empower urban youth, ages 16 to 24. The Fund has awarded one-year grants of $250,000 to nonprofit organizations in 10 U.S. cities.

Open Medicine Foundation has received a $350,000 donation for the ME/CFS Severely Ill Big Data Study. The study will conduct a comprehensive, “Big Data,” analysis on severely ill ME/CFS patients with the goal of finding sensitive and distinctive molecular biomarker(s).

CFRE International has elected Alice L. Ferris, MBA, CFRE, ACFRE (Flagstaff, AZ); Becky Ann Gilbert, CFRE (Berlin, Germany); Richard K. Martin, CFRE (Detroit, MI); and Graham Papenfus, CFRE, F.IDPE (Cheltenham, United Kingdom) to three’ year terms (2016-2018) on the CFRE International Board of Directors.

New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) has appointed Judith E. Schmidt, RN, MSN, ONC, CCRN, as its chief executive officer. NJSNA presents the interests of 125,000 registered nurses and advanced practice nurses as an advocate for the nursing profession. Its nonprofit foundation, Institute for Nursing, helps nurses further their careers by providing continuing education, scholarships, and research grants in addition to invaluable networking opportunities.

Stella Murga, Founder and Executive Director of the Adelante Youth Alliancewill be honored as the 2015 Racial Justice Award recipient by the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley. The award will be given at the 13th annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel.

Inspiring the American Dream Foundation has elected Ryan Heafy, Patsy Wood Smith, and Rick Klausing to its Board of Directors. The appointments support Inspiring the American Dream Foundations growth strategy that includes expansion for its Opportunity to Succeed Program throughout Upstate, South Carolina.

Accomplished arts executive Scott Harrison has been appointed Executive Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Harrison, who assumes his post on October 6, 2015, handles responsibility for providing the vision, strategic direction and oversight of the organization.

HomeAid’s Portland and Sacramento chapters both completed and dedicated a project, which allows them to co-celebrate the completion of HomeAid’s 600th project.  The 600 projects includes everything from the construction of large multi-unit housing for the homeless, to “Care Day” projects where an existing shelter is fixed up, painted, or landscaped. HomeAid Sacramento’s project was for Next Move, a charity that helps homeless families and donated $500,000. And HomeAid Portland completed $45,000 worth of improvements to the Love INC-Newberg shelter for women and children.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has appointed Nicole K. Allen White as Director of Government and External Affairs, effective immediately. Mrs. Allen White will advance the Museum’s goals for public support for its programs and build on its relationships with city, state, and federal legislators and officials, as well as community groups.

 A UPS plane with nearly 100,000 pounds of American Red Cross relief supplies took off this past Friday from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to help more than 50,000 residents of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands  affected by Typhoon Soudelor and Tropical Storm Goni.

On August 22, The UPS Foundation delivered nearly 100,000 pounds of American Red Cross relief supplies to the residents of the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands affected by Typhoon Soudelor and Tropical Storm Goni. The UPS’s Humanitarian Relief & Resilience program has moved 263 relief shipments across 43 countries in an effort to aid those devastated by natural disasters.

The Vermont Council on Rural Development‘s forum on Vermont’s climate change seeks area businesses and nonprofits to share ideas and solutions on confronting climate change. The next meeting will be held on October 6th in Brattleboro.

The Lincoln Center for Performing Arts has launched its inaugural Lincoln Center Global Exchange, which will bring together 200 international thought leaders ranging from business, government, education, media, science and the arts on September 18. The Global Exchange will occur days before the opening of the United Nations general Assembly to explore how art and culture can be effective in fostering healthy citizens, vibrant cities, and strong communities.

In support of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), entrepreneur Shelia Johnson has designed a limited-edition scarf which will be available for purchase at Chico‘s. Funds raised during this initiative will help accelerate SU2C’s cancer research for new therapies.

Chicago’s civic and cultural leaders convene for “Greater Together,” Chicago’s first Cultural Accessibility Summit in Conjunction with ADA 25 Chicago, to share insights and advance the understanding and implementation of best practices in accessibility. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the ADA, Goodman Theatre joined the 25 for 25 Cultural Access Project—more than 30 Chicagoland cultural organizations committed to making experiences more inclusive and accessible for all. The Summit takes place on September 1.

Kiehl’s and amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research partnered with CrowdRise to allow riders to engage in social fundraising for the 6th annual Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR to support HIV/AIDS charities. This allowed even those not along the LifeRide route to join the ride by visiting CrowdRise.com/LifeRide2015 and donating to the celebrity rider of their choice. So far, they have raised almost $275,000.

My Possibilities, a Plano-based non-profit and continued education center dedicated to empowering adults with cognitive disabilities, held a Golf Clinic for their students on Monday, August 24. The Golf Clinic was held to help prepare the students for the 7th Annual HIPster Golf Classic presented by Berry Family Services on Monday, August 31.

WTOP, a Radio station in Metro DC,  has announced the return of the online contest, “Click for a Cause” which gives Washington, D.C. area non-profit organizations the chance to vie for one of three cash prizes. Voting will take place Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 25 at 5 p.m. at www.wtop.com.

Moen Incorporated has joined forces with Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio (NHS-SA), a private 501c(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build successful families and communities through housing opportunities.  Over a period of two years, Moen will provide NHS-SA energy efficient fixtures for home remodels and new home reconstruction in the San Antonio area.

This September, for the 4th consecutive year, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers will join thousands of restaurants nationwide to support Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign by raising funds in their restaurants. During the month of September at Mellow Mushroom, there are four exciting ways to be a part of this initiative. Each $1 raised is equivalent to 10 meals for hungry children. This year Mellow Mushroom’s goal is to raise $150,000, providing 1.5 million meals for children without food.

Detroit Friendship House invites the public to attend its 10th Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, September 12.

Meijer, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer will stretch every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation further Sept. 3-5 during its Double Match Days. That means for every $10 donation card purchase, Meijer will contribute $20, resulting in a total $30 donation in support of Hunger Action Month to restock its food pantry.
