Ari Nessel, a philanthropist of The Pollination Project, has provide seed money to individuals around the world to start projects for economic empowerment, environmental conservation, community health, food justice, animal protection, arts and more. The 1000th grant was awarded to Padmanaban Gopalan, who started No Food Waste, a grassroots effort to feed the hungry and reduce trash in Coimbatore, India. No Food Waste straddles the environmental and social impacts of excess food.

BirdLife International, with Société d’Ornithologie de Polynésie (SOP Manu – BirdLife Partner in French Polynesia) and Island Conservation, completed an ambitious conservation operation on six remote islands in the Tuamotu (Acteon group) & Gambier archipelagos. The project makes an unprecedented contribution to saving one of the world’s rarest birds and a number of other endangered species from extinction.
Thousands of children participated in the unique Race for Survival held in New Delhi to demand better healthcare facilities for every mother and child. The Race was held ahead of the Global Call for Action meeting, being hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, wherein several commitments at a global scale will be made for ending preventable child and maternal deaths. Over 20 schools and NGOs across Delhi participated in the race, which was organized by action/2015 partners Save the Children, Nine is Mine and UNICEF.
Alere Inc. a rapid diagnostics company, has granted 2.5 million South African Rand to support the work of the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation, a Cape Town-based organization under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. The Foundation is a leader in HIV and TB research; community development and support are integral to its research endeavors. The grant will support the Foundation’s Tutu Teen Truck project and expand the reach of infectious, sexual and reproductive services for youth and adolescents from communities around Cape Town.
Bharti Foundation’s ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’ initiative, which is aimed at improving rural household sanitation in rural Punjab, has constructed and handed over 5000 Individual House Hold Latrines free of cost in 210 villages across District Ludhiana (Punjab). In addition, more than 1500 toilets are currently under construction in 64 additional villages.
