Trustees of The Duke Endowment in Charlotte have approved more than $18.2 million in 30 new grants to organizations in North Carolina and South Carolina.
With 360 guests, the American Heart Association’s Winston-Salem Heart Ball raised $230,000. All funds raised through the ball benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education.
The Carolina RailHawks and Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina have collaborated to form the Goals Granting Wishes program. The RailHawks will be working with community sponsors and donating $2,500 for every Carolina RailHawks goal scored at each home game during the 2016 season. With every ticket purchased to their games, the RailHawks will also donate $5 to benefit Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina.

The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame has selected nine North Carolina sports figures for induction into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. The inductees were introduced at a media conference at the North Carolina Museum of History on Thursday, May 5th.
StepUp Ministry honored its volunteers at a Volunteer Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 25th. Volunteers were awarded for Employer of the Year, Alumni Volunteer of the Year, Children’s Program Volunteer of the Year, Adult Life Skills Volunteer of the Year, the Steppin’ In Award, and more.
Activate Good is a finalist for INDY Week’s Best of the Triangle in the ‘Best Nonprofit in Wake County’ and ‘Best Charitable Group’ categories.
On May 4th, Stop Soldier Suicide presented a workshop designed to help veterans paint their stories in a safe, judgement-free zone. The focus of the workshop was to help service members express their emotions, experiences, and thoughts through color.
The Triangle Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership Center, formerly known as the Volunteer Center of Durham, held The Great Human Race (GHR) on April 30th to benefit Triangle nonprofits. To continue to help nonprofits, all organizations who participated in the GHR qualify for the 5% Matching Challenge Donor raised from May 1st until June 1st. All other organizations have until June 1st to register.
More than 200 artists participated in the Durham Art Walk Spring Market during April 30th-May 1st. This event is produced and presented by the Durham Arts Council and featured local art, music, and food throughout downtown Durham.
Urban Ministry Center of Charlotte received four stars from Charity Navigator for its work to end homelessness.
Kidznotes Durham held its spring concert on May 7th with their 2016 fundraising partner, Band Together. Together, they aim to raise more than $1 million in 2016.
Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County has appointed Michael Campbell as it’s new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer beginning July 5th. He succeeds Sylvia Oberle, who is retiring after 10 years at the agency.
The Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity Women Build volunteers and Lowe’s Heroes employees, along with actor Kelly McGillis, volunteered Friday, May 6th to help a local family build an affordable place they can call home, as part of Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week, which takes place April 30-May 8.
30 area Honeywell volunteers completed needed maintenance and upgrades to the Disabled American Veterans’ Woodrow Wilson Chapter #1 clubhouse in Knightdale. This project was coordinated through Rebuilding Together of the Triangle.

In celebration of Lupus Awareness Month, the Lupus Foundation of America, N.C. Chapter will host statewide events and educational program throughout the month of May.
On May 19th, the Emily K. Center will hold the May March to recognize K-12 students for their hard work and efforts this year. There will also be announcements for the winners of this year’s Dream-Do-Achieve Awards in the areas of academics, character, and leadership, as well as the Class of 2016’s college attendance for 2016-2017.
Guildford Parent Academy and Say Yes to Education Guilford are in need of volunteers for its Family Fun Day 2016 on May 21st at City Lake Park in Jamestown.
International House seeks home hosts to open their homes to a group from Tajikistan in May 21st-28th and Entrepreneurs from Europe June 4th-19th.
The Triangle North Healthcare Foundation 2016 grant cycle launched May 2. The Foundation is seeking projects that will have a positive impact on improving health in Vance, Granville, Warren, and Franklin counties.
The Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation and Resourceful Communities present Gathering for Good: Rural + Urban, a series of convenings statewide focused on lifting up opportunities to work across communities, highlight innovative solutions, and build towards action both locally and across North Carolina. The Lucy Daniels Center will hold the Inside/Out 5k Run/Walk for Children’s Mental Health on Saturday, June 11 in Cary. Proceeds directly benefit the center’s Family Support Fund.
Chapel Hill’s Festifall Arts Festival, a juried art show, is accepting submissions until May 15th for its poster competition.
