The American Heart Association’s Winston-Salem Heart Ball, which took place on Friday, April 28, raised $232,000 through tickets, tables sold, sponsorships, silent and live auctions, and individual donations, including a $22,000 increase through purely philanthropic Open Your Heart bidding. All funds raised through the Winston-Salem Heart Ball benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education.
Wells Fargo and Military Warriors Support Foundation presented a newly renovated, mortgage-free home and a payment-free vehicle to two veterans at a Military Reception in Wilmington on May 1st.

The Mint Museum will celebrate the “Year of Fashion,” spanning the museum’s next fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017 and continuing through June 30, 2018. The “Year of Fashion” will center around three exhibitions to be on view throughout the year, and is also accompanied by a major financial gift to launch a Fashion Initiative at Mint Museum Randolph to enhance the storage, study, exhibition, and development of innovative immersive programs around fashion in years to come.

The GEM Program was created by Upward staff and Women United members this year to give fifth grade girls a boost in self-confidence and support before they transition to middle school.

BikeWalkNC will participating in the Tour de Fat Bicycle Festival put on by New Belgium Brewing, proceeds for the event will benefit local nonprofit partners. The event will take place in Asheville on May 20th and in Charlotte on May 27th.
WakeEd Partnership is now accepting applications for the 2017-18 Teacher Innovation Grants. The deadline to apply is May 15.
The 32nd annual NC Watermelon Festival in Murfreesboro will take place August 2-5.
The Orange County Arts Commission will host one annual grant cycle in the spring, instead of two cycles in the spring and fall. The 2017 Grassroots Grant cycle opened April 3 and will close June 2. Awardees will be notified by August 1.
