Kidznotes received a capacity building grant of $37,300 from the John Rex Endowment. Kidznotes will use the grant funds to team with Cloud Giants.

Foundation For The Carolinas has had a record year of philanthropic activity. Charitable assets for the community foundation rose to $1.78 billion, the highest in its history. 

A prestigious national research agency has awarded El Futuro $241,825 in funding to find ways to improve mental health treatment by better involving patients in research and applying the results. El Futuro is the first community organization in North Carolina to receive the Eugene Washington Engagement Award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

The Franklin County Community Foundation awarded mini-grants from its education fund to Bunn Elementary, Cedar Creek Middle, Cross Creek Charter, Franklinton Elementary, and Laurel Mill Elementary.

Duke Energy Foundation is investing nearly $1.4 million to jumpstart job readiness through grants to 26 education and nonprofit organizations focused on developing a highly qualified workforce and connecting job seekers with North Carolina employers.

Emily KThe Emily K Center was selected as an NC GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Ribbon of Hope Grant recipient. Representatives toured the center to and met students the grant would benefit.

On Friday, March 25th,  the Durham Rescue Mission held its Annual Easter Community Dinner. Easter baskets were given to at-risk children and 10,000 pieces of clothing for all, among other gifts.  

On Tuesday, March 29th, the Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter held its Volunteer Open  House, where attendees learned how to get involved in chapter activities, programs, and advocacy. Refreshments were served and resources provided.

On Wednesday, March 23rd, at the Mint Museum Uptown, student dancers performed 3,000-year-old classical Indian dances.  Rhythmic movements told the story of ancient India through costumes, dance dramas and music.  The event’s signature dance, “Unity in Diversity” featured internationally acclaimed performer Dr. Maha Gingrich and group.

On March 28th, 2016, the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition received a report of its 2500th drug overdose reversal using the opioid antagonist, naloxone. As of March 29th, 2016, the total number of reversals stands at 2,503.

On Tuesday, March 29th, IntraHealth International held a SwitchPoint meet-up at Ponysaurus Brewing Co., where attendees could meet the conference organizers, other potential attendees, and some of this year’s presenters. Attendees could also build with Legos, play JaidedAid, and enjoy a tasty beverage.

The Durham City Arts Council held the 32nd Annual Emerging Artists Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 31st, where attendees could meet the artists that make Durham the city of art.

Sahba MotallebiThe National Folk Festival which, will take place in Greensboro from September 9th to 11ty, 2016 has added three more performers to its lineup including Sahba Motallebi. The 76th National Folk Festival in 2016 marks the event’s second year of its three-year residency in Greensboro.

Peter J. Coyle receives the Ella Fountain Pratt Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts at the 32nd Annual Emerging Artists Award Ceremony held by the Durham Arts Council.

Lucy ILucy Inman, daughter of Lucy Daniels, will read the role of Spoonface on Sunday, April 17th to highlight Lucy Daniels Center‘s work with children who are facing emotional, mental and social challenges.

Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced the addition of Penn Holderness, managing partner at Greenroom Communications, to its advisory board. Holderness will join the existing advisory board of 53 business and community leaders.

The NC Center for Nonprofits will host Countdown to the Inevitable, Unavoidable Leadership Transition with presenter Bert Armstrong, Co-Founder and Principal of Armstrong McGuire, on April 26th at 11:00 a.m. 

The first U.S. retrospective of Italian designer Franco Moschino’s work between 1983-1994 is on view through this Sunday, April 3rd, at the Mint Museum Uptown.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research has been named an Official Charity Partner of 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. The race will take place on Sunday, November 6th.

During North Carolina’s Week of the Young Child, join the board, staff, and friends of Smart Start of Forsyth County, Inc. for “Raising Forsyth, Celebrating 20 years of making a difference in the lives of our children”. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 12th at 7:30 a.m. at Bridger Field House, Wake Forest University, 499 Deacon Boulevard.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas (CBCC) announced that it is now producing pathogen-reduced platelets using the INTERCEPT Blood System. The new platelet processing method provides additional safeguards to protect patients and keep the regional blood supply safe. 

DACSaturday, April 16 the Durham Arts Council (DAC) will host Top of the Town Progressive Dinner an event, that features roof-top dining and private art collections, benefiting DAC.

To kick-off the move to downtown, the Winston-Salem Heart & Stroke Walk will hold a celebration for National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 6th.

The Nonprofit Town Hall, convened by Triangle Community Foundation in collaboration with the N.C. Center for Nonprofits, will take place on Wednesday, April 13th. 

On Saturday, April 2nd  Activate Good  hosted it’s “Triangle Military, Veterans, & Families Volunteering Together” social in Raleigh for veterans or active duty service members interested in working alongside their family to make a difference. 

Healthcare professionals are invited to attend an advance care planning workshop led by Risa Hanau, vice president of clinical services at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, on Friday, April 15th at the Lusk Center. 

United Arts is hosted its April First Friday Exhibit and Reception on April 1st from at the MJH Gallery. The visual art exhibit will feature acrylic on canvas by Anthony Garcia-Copian and pottery by Helen Seebold. Light refreshments will be served.

SHIFT NC‘s 2016 statewide conference: Small Steps, Giant Leaps: Propelling Adolescent Sexual Health Forward, North Carolina’s only conference on adolescent sexual health, will be held on May 11th to 13th at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Durham, NC.

The WomenNC 2016 Symposium “Global-to-Local: Reflections on the 60th Session of Commission on Status of Women” will be held Thursday, April 7th in Durham.

ArtsGreensboro, in partnership with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Guilford Merchants Association, and the North Carolina Entrepreneurship Center at UNCG, is accepting nominations for the 2016 Arts in Business Award. This annual award recognizes a Greensboro small business for its leadership and commitment to the arts and its impact on the arts over the past year, as measured by activities, projects, and/or events in support of any aspect of the arts. 

Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) invites all to participate in National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW), a week of action for students and community members to raise awareness about farmworker issues on campuses and in  communities.

Artist, Curator and Native Son Brad Thomas Returns to N.C.’s Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, with “Show Me the Way to Go Home,” His First Major Solo Exhibition Since 2004. His exhibition will be held in Gallery B from April 1st to August 6th, 2016.

The 2016 UNC Science Expo will offer more than 100 fascinating activities for all ages including hands-on experiments, intriguing demonstrations, behind-the-scenes lab tours, stage entertainment, educational presentations, engineering demos, and computer and software explorations on Saturday, April 9thThe environmentalist husband-and-wife artists Marietta Patricia Leis and David E. Vogel’s installation “Melting,” arrived at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts on April 1st, and continues through August 6th. The show will officially open July 1st.

The NC Community Foundation its county foundation partners are accepting applications from nonprofit organizations for grants until May 3rd. 

Registration is now open for the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Triangle NC Chapter‘s April Education Breakfast. The event will be held on April 21st and focus on determining the health of your fundraising program by utilizing data and technology.

A free staged reading of “In Abraham’s Bosom,” a 1927 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama written by North Carolina playwright Paul Green, will be performed April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Paul Green Theatre of the Center for Dramatic Art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

ZSRTrustees of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation are pleased to announce the inaugural Leslie J. Winner Public Interest and Civil Rights Fellowship. The Fellowship is named after Leslie Winner, former executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation.
