Wells Fargo will donate $50,000 to support those affected by recent tornadoes and severe weather in the Greensboro-area. The funds will be split between United Way of Greater Greensboro to support their efforts focused on providing immediate relief, and other local organizations to support longer-term rebuilding efforts across Greensboro.
Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast will distribute $350,000 in fundraised dollars through the Community Health Grants Program and Komen’s National Treatment Assistance Program in 2018.
In December 2017, The Winston Salem Foundation received a $725,000 flexible gift from an anonymous donor. This gift will be endowed to support their Community Grants program.
Guilford Green Foundation‘s 2018 Green Party and Silent Auction brought in $86,000 that will be used to support the LGBTQIA Community Center of Greensboro and fund programs that advance equality and inclusion for the LGBTQIA community.
OneMain Financial hosted a kick-off event on April 21st in Goldsboro for the first “Made on Main Street” Community Action Grant. The city of Goldsboro received the first of seven $25,000 grants that will be awarded throughout 2018, for a downtown beautification project involving six crosswalks and two wall murals.
Foundation For The Carolinas has reached their construction goal of $51.5 million to renovate the Carolina Theatre, the historic movie palace that has been abandoned since 1978. The goal was topped thanks to a $500,000 gift from Barings, the global financial services firm that recently opened its new headquarters in Charlotte.

In February, Hanna Cockburn joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation as the Director of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Division. Hanna has been practicing land use, recreation, historic preservation, sustainability and transportation planning in North Carolina since 1998.
Annie Schmidt has been hired as the Executive Director of NAMI Wake County.
Rhoda Dompier joined Life Experiences as President and CEO in March. She is the former Executive Director of Life Plan Trust in Apex, NC.
Marisette Hasan has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of The Carolinas Center; Ray Riordan, formerly with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, has been named The Carolinas Center’s Vice President of North Carolina Programs.
Children’s Home Society of North Carolina named Kristen Brown Smalley their new Vice President of Philanthropy. Kristen will guide statewide fundraising and community engagement efforts after spending 10 years at Duke University, most recently as Senior Gift Planning Counsel.

Students across Durham and Granville counties are creating story quilts and story pillows with Willa Brigham, a long time Durham Arts Council CAPS teaching artist and Emmy Award winning TV show host for Smart Start Kids. The residency invites students to develop an interest in sewing and encourages storytelling through art.
United Way of North Carolina and Unite Us are partnering to expand NC 2-1-1’s statewide information and referral system’s community resource directory and call centers by combining them with Unite Us’ care coordination and outcome tracking software.

Community Foundation of Henderson County has Field of Interest Funds available in the areas of Animal Welfare and the Environment. Nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) IRS Determination Letter serving communities in and around Henderson County are asked to submit a Letter of Intent outlining their approach to serving the communities needs in each of these interest areas. Submissions should be hand-delivered or postmarked no later than May 15th.

The American Lung Association in North Carolina is fighting for cleaner air by providing vouchers to help replace or retrofit old wood and coal stove appliances with new, efficient, Environmental Protection Agency-certified appliances. Residential property owners in Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Mecklenburg, and Swain counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians community may be eligible for vouchers.

El Sistema USA is now accepting applications for its new Program for Rising El Sistema Organizations: PRESTO. El Sistema USA received a one million dollar grant from the Paul M.
