Wells Fargo will donate $50,000 to support those affected by recent tornadoes and severe weather in the Greensboro-area. The funds will be split between United Way of Greater Greensboro to support their efforts focused on providing immediate relief, and other local organizations to support longer-term rebuilding efforts across Greensboro.

Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast will distribute $350,000 in fundraised dollars through the Community Health Grants Program and Komen’s National Treatment Assistance Program in 2018. 

In December 2017, The Winston Salem Foundation received a $725,000 flexible gift from an anonymous donor. This  gift will be endowed to support their Community Grants program.

Guilford Green Foundation‘s 2018 Green Party and Silent Auction brought in $86,000 that will be used to support the LGBTQIA Community Center of Greensboro and fund programs that advance equality and inclusion for the LGBTQIA community.

OneMain Financial hosted a kick-off event on April 21st in Goldsboro for the first “Made on Main Street” Community Action Grant. The city of Goldsboro received the first of seven $25,000 grants that will be awarded throughout 2018, for a downtown beautification project involving six crosswalks and two wall murals.

Foundation For The Carolinas has reached their construction goal of $51.5 million to renovate the Carolina Theatre, the historic movie palace that has been abandoned since 1978. The goal was topped thanks to a $500,000 gift from Barings, the global financial services firm that recently opened its new headquarters in Charlotte.

In February, Hanna Cockburn joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation as the Director of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Division. Hanna has been practicing land use, recreation, historic preservation, sustainability and transportation planning in North Carolina since 1998.

Annie Schmidt has been hired as the Executive Director of NAMI Wake County.  

Rhoda Dompier joined Life Experiences as President and CEO in March. She is the former Executive Director of Life Plan Trust in Apex, NC.

Marisette Hasan has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of The Carolinas Center; Ray Riordan, formerly with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, has been named The Carolinas Center’s Vice President of North Carolina Programs.

Children’s Home Society of North Carolina named Kristen Brown Smalley their new Vice President of Philanthropy. Kristen will guide statewide fundraising and community engagement efforts after spending 10 years at Duke University, most recently as Senior Gift Planning Counsel.

Students across Durham and Granville counties are creating story quilts and story pillows with Willa Brigham, a long time Durham Arts Council CAPS teaching artist and Emmy Award winning TV show host for Smart Start Kids. The residency invites students to develop an interest in sewing and encourages storytelling through art.

United Way of North Carolina and Unite Us are partnering to expand NC 2-1-1’s statewide information and referral system’s community resource directory and call centers by combining them with Unite Us’ care coordination and outcome tracking software.

Triangle North Healthcare Foundation is seeking partners to help measurably improve health in Vance, Warren, Franklin, and Granville counties. The 2018 grant cycle is now open. Letters of Interest are due May 1st.

Community Foundation of Henderson County has Field of Interest Funds available in the areas of Animal Welfare and the Environment. Nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) IRS Determination Letter serving communities in and around Henderson County are asked to submit a Letter of Intent outlining their approach to serving the communities needs in each of these interest areas. Submissions should be hand-delivered or postmarked no later than May 15th.

The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits will host a webinar, Creating Respectful Workplaces in a #MeToo World, on Tuesday, May 1st at 11:30. Registration is open now.

The American Lung Association in North Carolina is fighting for cleaner air by providing vouchers to help replace or retrofit old wood and coal stove appliances with new, efficient, Environmental Protection Agency-certified appliances. Residential property owners in Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Mecklenburg, and Swain counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians community may be eligible for vouchers.

The City of Raleigh Arts Commission is accepting nominations for the 2018 Medal of Arts awards, the City’s highest arts honor! Nominations should describe extraordinary artistic achievement or support of the arts. Applications are due April 19th.

Activate Good will host their Good Together dinner fundraiser on Thursday, April 26th at 6 p.m. at The Campbell Lodge in Raleigh. Registration is open now.

On Thursday, April 26th at 6 p.m. at ReCity in Durham, YNPN Triangle will hold a panel of nonprofit leaders and experienced mentors and mentees, followed by in-depth table discussions on identifying, cultivating, and nurturing strong mentor/mentee relationships, the benefits of having a mentor, pitfalls to avoid in mentor relationships and more.

The Alzheimer’s Association – Western Carolina Chapter is hosting an educational program – “Navigating a Dementia Diagnosis: What’s your plan? Who’s on your team?” on Saturday, May 5th. It will take place from 9:00 a.m. – Noon at Assurance United Methodist Church in Huntersville.

El Sistema USA is now accepting applications for its new Program for Rising El Sistema Organizations: PRESTO. El Sistema USA received a one million dollar grant from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation to support the growth and sustainability of the El Sistema movement in the United States. PRESTO will identify up to 15 members of El Sistema USA within their first five years of program activity and invest in them financially and programmatically.

MeckEd, along with Charlotte Mecklenburg Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox, principals, district leaders, community and business representatives will honor 20 teachers who have mastered instructional best practices and are positive leaders in their school and professional communities at The 2018 Teachers of Excellence Awards & Dinner on April 27th at 5:30 p.m. at The Hilton Charlotte: City Center.

Nonprofit organizations in Currituck and Dare counties seeking funding from the North Carolina Community Foundation and local affiliate foundation, the Currituck-Dare Community Foundation, are invited to participate in free grantseekers workshops. In Dare County, the workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 15 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at Duck Woods Country Club in Southern Shores. In Currituck County, the workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 15 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the TownBank of Currituck in Moyock.

The Greater Raleigh Chamber’s Economic Development Forum 2018 will take place on Tuesday, May 8th, from 8 – 10 a.m. at the Raleigh Marriott City Center.
