The Wawa Foundation presented the American Red Cross with the lead gift of $500,000 to support their No More Fire Deaths Campaign, on Thursday, April 14th.
$3,150 was raised for the Give a Note Foundation at the 31st annual Music in Our Schools Month, where the Boston area Arthur Murray Dance Centers put on a dance marathon to raise money for music education.
The Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge received $7 million in new investments to strengthen services and support for millions of veterans and military families across the United States. With their commitments, PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., Orange County Community Foundation, and CarMax and The CarMax Foundation join the 32 philanthropic organizations and corporations that have pledged since 2014. Through grants and other forms of support, nearly $283 million has been committed in the Impact Pledge to date.
The Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation endowed a $25,000 scholarship for a University of North Texas undergraduate student studying gerontology or end-of-life care. The organization will also provide financial support for two end-of-life care community education programs offered through UNT’s College of Public Affairs & Community Service, and five professional internships with aging-related government, non-profit or private organizations.
Henry Schein, Inc. awarded the inaugural Henry Schein Cares Medal for animal health to the Portland Animal Welfare Team (PAW Team). The PAW Team was selected from a field of three finalists, which also included the Humane Society for Seattle-King County, of Bellevue, Washington, and Helping Paws, of Escondido, California. The PAW Team will receive $15,000 in cash from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Inc. to support its work. In addition, each finalist will receive $10,000 worth of product from Henry Schein, Inc.
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation will award nearly $25 million for ambitious plans to create fairer, more effective local justice systems across the country. The Foundation is awarding 11 jurisdictions grants between $1.5M and $3.5M over two years, and an additional nine jurisdictions will be given $150,000 grants. The grants are part of the Safety and Justice Challenge, a national initiative supported by the Foundation with an initial $75 million to reduce over-incarceration by changing the way America thinks about and uses jails.

The Vodafone Americas Foundation named eight finalists in its eighth annual Wireless Innovation Project, an annual competition for wireless-related technologies aimed at solving the critical issues facing the world today. Hillel International will set up operations in Poland to better serve the needs of its growing Jewish population.
