250 schools, 2,500 teachers, and 25,000 students with a total of 250,000 people in communities will be engaged in The Non-Violence Project Foundation educational project in Uganda, thanks to the financial support from the City and the Canton of Geneva in Switzerland. The 3-year project is an outreach to stem the escalation of youth violence in the country, which has increased partly due to lack of knowledge on how to solve conflicts peacefully and to the high rate of youth unemployment.

Jewish Funders Network awarded the 2018 Shapiro Prize for Excellence in Philanthropic Collaboration to the Social Venture Fund for Jewish-Arab Equality and Shared Society on 13 March, in a ceremony at JFN’s annual conference in Tel Aviv. The honor recognizes the Social Venture Fund as a collaborative and structured partnership of more than twenty funders from the United States and Israel.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in association with the Airports Authority of India, conducted the Bhumi Puja for building its centralized kitchen in Mukundganj, Hazaribag. The facility will be serving nutritious and delicious mid-day meals to 1 lakh students in 565 primary and middle schools.

Since 2008, the African Paediatric Fellowship Programme has helped the University of Cape Town train 151 pediatricians, pediatric sub-specialists, and pediatric nurses from across Africa.

Jeff Roney, Forests Ontario‘s newest Green Leader, was nominated for his work with the government of Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program. He and his wife, Samantha Campbell, a nurse practitioner, planted more than 2,000 trees through the program.

To mark the centennial of the US Migratory Bird Treaty Act, BirdLife International is declaring 2018 the “Year of the Bird”. As part of this, they join with National Geographic, the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to encourage nature lovers to take a small but important step every month to make the world a better place for birds. March’s Call to Action is to plant native plants.

The 2018 Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship will take place April 10th-13th in Oxford, England. This year’s theme is “The Power of Proximity”.

MAP International is joining with The Carter Center to provide neuropsychiatric medicines and supplies to the Liberian Ministry of Health.  The first shipment of medicine left MAP International’s Global Medicines Distribution Center February 22, arrived in Liberia February 25 and is being processed for distribution by the Ministry of Health.

Animal Defenders International, government authorities ATFFS Lima, the Regional Government of Madre de Dios, and organizations IRUPA, UPA, and Animal Voice launched a new initiative to return trafficked reptiles to the wild  with the successful release of 79 turtles and 10 tortoises in the Peruvian Amazon. The release is intended to be the first of many, ensuring the future survival of the species.
