The LBDI highlights the challenges that face the over 1.6 million North Carolinians living in poverty and the programs and services of the JLC that help combat the effects of poverty.

Student Action with Farmworkers welcomes Maria Gonzales as their new operations manager.
North Carolina PTA will entrust New Frame, a North Carolina-based lobbying and communication firm, to represent the organization in its continued efforts to advocate for every child. New Frame’s work with North Carolina PTA will be lead by Jason Joyner, Brian Lewis, and Skye David.
The Northern Albemarle Community Foundation welcomed Brian Beasley of Camden, Rodney Walton of Elizabeth City, and Angela Cole of Elizabeth City to their board of advisors.
The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce welcomed Bryan Fox as their new Vice President of Public Policy on March 12th. His responsibility includes evaluating the issues affecting businesses within the county and throughout the state and region, while working together with the Chamber’s Local, State and Federal Government Committee and the Board of Directors, to develop a legislative agenda focused on the ways in which government can be more effective and supportive of a strong business environment.
Dr. Brian Britt, a professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech, will be featured during the annual Womack Lectures at Methodist University on March 21st. Lectures are free and open to the public.

Johnston County Community Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for projects funded from its community grantmaking fund. Funds are available for nonprofit organizations that serve general charitable needs in Johnston County. Visit the North Carolina Community Foundation for information about applying. The deadline for submitting applications is noon April 17.
North Carolina Coastal Federation is the designated charity for The Carolina Cup, the world’s largest festival combining paddle races, clinics, product displays, and entertainment, which will be held April 18th-22nd.
The Center for Strategic Philanthropy and Civil Society welcomes two featured speakers from the Barr Foundation at their next Foundation Impact Research Group seminar on Wednesday, March 28th at 4:30 at the Sanford School of Public Policy. Durham’s Partnership for Children, a Smart Start Initiative, is launching two new initiatives to strengthen early literacy and support young children and families in Durham. The initiatives, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Reach Out and Read, are both made possible through funding from the North Carolina Partnership for Children and will help the Partnership achieve its mission of ensuring all children enter school ready to succeed.
Glenaire Retirement Community will hold the 2nd annual Glenaire 5K on Saturday, April 7th in Cary. This year, when registrants chooses team Wheels4Hope from the existing drop down menu, Glenaire will donate 10% of the registration fee to Wheels4Hope. Additionally, 10% of donations to the 5K made under team Wheels4Hope will be donated to Wheels4Hope.
