North Carolina's Ben Brown to defend his title in the 2nd Annual US Open Fat Bike Beach Championship to benefit the Wrightsville Beach Foundation, Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina is named Junior Achievement USA, WomenNC prepares for its annual Local-to-Global Forum, Inter-Faith Council for Social Service meets The Stewards Fund Challenge, and more.

The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service has met The Stewards Fund Challenge and will receive a $92,625 matching gift.

Prior to the Mark Gottfried Radio Show held at Jimmy V’s Osteria + Bar on February 3rd, the restaurant presented The V Foundation with a check for nearly $40,000, which will help fund cutting-edge cancer research. 

Danville Regional Foundation announced that the Danville Cancer Association has been selected to receive the 2016 B.R. Ashby, M.D. Award for Outstanding Community Service. This award of a $50,000 general operating grant honors outstanding community service in the region by a nonprofit organization based on success in helping needy families and individuals overcome significant challenges.

On February 2nd, the Durham Rescue Mission held a ceremony for the first of three new academic residence halls for Victory Program students at the Durham Rescue Mission. Sir Walter Wally was a VIP guest at the ceremony.

On January 28th, the North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition received a report of its 2,000th drug overdose reversal using the opioid antagonist, naloxone. As of February 1st, the total number of reversals stands at 2,061.

Junior Achievement of Eastern North Carolina has been named by Junior Achievement USA® (JA-USA) as one of 17 Area offices nationwide that have earned a 2014-2015 Peak Performance Team Award for superior performance. It has additionally won a 4 Star Award for meeting JA-USA’s operational standards for compliance, student impact, operational efficiency, financial stability and sustainability.

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity announced that Andy Barnett has been named as its new Executive Director. Barnet succeeds longtime Executive Director Lew Kraus, who has announced his retirement.

Transitions LifeCare is nearing the end of a $6 million capital campaign, “Power of 10,” to build 10 additional rooms onto its existing Hospice Home. Construction is scheduled to begin in late spring.

On February 3rd at The Mint Museum Uptown, Belgian designer Jens Praet discussed his work, inspirations and new directions. Praet is known for his distinctive furniture and object designs of shredded paper and resin, and has been featured in international art fairs such as Design Miami/Art Basel, among others.

The NCTech4Good Conference will be held from June 2nd to June 3rd at The Solutions Center in Durham. This event will encourage technology innovation in organizations, solve challenges and connect nonprofit professionals.

The Touring Theater of North Carolina presents “Over the Edge or You Done Me Wrong”, a non-Valentine themed production, playing from February 19th to February 27th. 

WomenNC‘s Local-to-Global Forum will feature presentations from the 2016 Fellows with keynote speaker Caroline Sullivan on February 25th at Temple Beth.

2.8 Wrightsville Beach Bike revised At the 2nd Annual US Open Fat Bike Beach Championship benefiting the Wrightsville Beach Foundation, last year’s champion, North Carolina’s Ben Brown, will defend his title in the race on March 12th at Wrightsville Beach, NC.

 The Guilford Education Alliance is holding a school supplies collection drive called “Love Our Teachers and Schools” for the month of February to help build inventories at the Teacher Supply Warehouse.

The 30th Annual Chapel Hill/Carrboro CROP Hunger Walk to support hunger-relief efforts globally and locally will be held on Sunday, April 10th.

Operation North State‘s supporters and volunteers are calling on North Carolina to help support its 2016 Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival Schedule. The festivals will enable 650 wounded warriors and disabled veterans, and their respective caregivers if needed, to enjoy a day of fishing on North Carolina’s premier fisheries.

Brett Eaton of Wake Forest University will present “Storytelling for Fundraising Success” on February 23rd for the Association of Fundraising Professionals NC Triad Chapter‘s monthly meeting. Eaton will discuss storytelling, why it moves people to action, and how storytelling can lead to fundraising success.

Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina announced the second in a series of “Free the Grid” tour stops to educate the public and drive grassroots pressure against energy regulations. Speakers at the February 18th dinner gathering will include Senator Andrew Brock and Representative Chris Millis.

On March 5th, Dress for Success Triangle and the Women Marines Association will host “Owning and Writing the Story of Your Military Life”. This will be a one-day exploratory writing workshop for women active duty, veterans, and women spouses/significant others of veterans. 

Triangle Nonprofit Communicators will host their February Lunch on February 16th to discuss “How to Use LinkedIn to Build 1-to-1 Relationships.”

On February 5th, the Triad went red for National Wear Red Day in support of the American Heart Association for women’s heart heath. Novant Health, Hanes Mall, Macy’s and NC A&T University are some the organizations that showed support.
