Activate Good has opened up pre-registration in the Triangle area for groups and companies to take part in volunteer projects, The Duke Endowment announced a 4 year, $3.7 million grant to Children's Home Society, The American Heart Association recognizes their 2017 Healthy Heart Champions Award finalists, and more.

The SECU foundation provided a three year, $3.5 million grant to CarolinaEast Foundation to help bring about the SECU Comprehensive Cancer Center at CarolinaEast Medical Center . 

The Belk Foundation donate $40,000 per year for two years to Heart Math Tutoring, a non-profit organization aimed at helping students in high-poverty elementary schools to increase math skills and academic confidence. Faison Enterprises also awarded $30,000 to Heart Math Tutoring to support the program.

State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation donated $75,000 to assist funding of Season 6 of the Biz Kid$ TV Series. 

The Duke Endowment announced a 4 year, $3.7 million grant to Children’s Home Society. The grant is aimed to increase support for programs aimed at tackling North Carolina’s foster care crisis. 

In 2016, Duke Energy Progress employees and customers via the Energy Neighbor Fund, a program for Duke Energy Progress aimed at helping customers in need, gave $600,000 in bill assistance North and South Carolina customers. The program has provided more than $16 million to households since the program’s inception in 1985.

The American Heart Association along with Womble Carlyle recognized Davlyn Davis, Darryl Gordon, Keshia Horn and Rev. Konnie Robinson as the finalists for the 2017 Healthy Heart Champions Award.

Habitat for Humanity of Craven County held a memorial service on February 4th in recognition of the passing of their Executive Director, J. Mark Beard. 

United Arts Council held their February First Friday exhibition at their office in Raleigh on February 3rd. The exhibit featured work by Anthony Garcia-Copian.

Greensboro Urban Ministry announced that the support from people from Guliford County, the organization supplied 41,117 pounds of food to New York State. 

NC WARN held a conference in Raleigh on February 4th regarding solutions to climate change and actions that people can take in North Carolina.   

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation announced that Tracey-Greene Washington will be leaving the organization in February. She served as the Community Economic Development Program Officer for the organization. 

The Women’s Sports Foundation hosted a briefing regarding protection of rights under Title IX on February 1st on Capitol Hill in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. 

Junior Achievement of the Triad in Greensboro received the 4 star award, which is one of Junior Achievement USA’s highest awards. 

MiracleFeet named Dr. Amrit Ray and Jarret Fass to their Board of Directors. In addition to this news, MiracleFeet recently reached the milestone of 20,000 kids in treatment, and PBS News Hour will air a profile of MiracleFeet in February. 

News about opportunities, initiatives
 
YNPN Triangle NC’s “#NonprofitSTRONG” Summit will be held at the Durham Convention Center on April 28th. Dr. Tashi-Ann Dubroy, the president of Shaw University, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.
 
The Durham Local to Global Women’s Forum, held by Women NC and Durham County Commission for Women will take place on February 23rd. Brenda Howerton, the Durham County Commissioner, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the event. 
 
Tosco Music is awarding two youth music scholarships and one adult scholarship to The Swannanoa Gathering this summer. Applications are accepted up to February 17th. 
 
The NC Community Foundation has announced the opening of the scholarship season. The NC Community Foundation carries out more than 150 scholarships for students in North Carolina. Deadlines vary but usually stretch from March to May. 
 
The Triangle Community Foundation and the United Way of the Greater Triangle have together announced a partnership with the NC Early Childhood Foundation to initiate a campaign to help children in the Triangle region to have a strong proficiency in reading by the third grade. 
 
Band Together NC announced that artist Ben Folds will be the main headliner for the Band Together NC’s Main Event concert on May 6 at the Red Hat Amphitheater. The proceeds from the show will benefit both Band Together NC as well as the YMCA of the Triangle
 
Applications are now open until March 1 for the North Carolina Arts Council’s seven grant programs for non-profit organizations.
 
The Triangle Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications through March 1st for nonprofits, religious congregations, and governmental agencies who are working for or helping out disadvantaged people in Southern Wake County.
 
The Western Marine Carolina Cup will take place at Wrightsville Beach, NC from April 19th-23rd. The event is organized by the Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club and sanctioned by the World Paddle Association.
 
Activate Good has opened up pre-registration in the Triangle area for groups and companies to take part in volunteer projects helping local charities on National Volunteer Week, which is to be held from April 23rd-29th. Volunteer opportunities for individuals will be opened up in the Spring. 
 
Raleigh Arts and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of North Carolina are collaborating together to host three board leadership workshops on March 1st. 

The NC Center for Nonprofits will host a Public Policy Forum on March 20th and a NC Nonprofits Day on March 21st in Raleigh.

Reinvestment Partners will host The Future of Banking in Rural North Carolina on February 16th in Raleigh. The symposium will examine economic and banking trends in rural North Carolina and how they affect bank branch locations.
