The Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center received a $750,000 gift from Michael and Jessica Olander, allowing the school to own a building after decades of meeting in local church basements. Olander’s gift also allows more children to be served and renames the school Frankie Lemmon School and Development Center at The Eliza Kraft Olander Campus. Michael Olander is owner and CEO of MDO Holdings.
The State Employees Credit Union Foundation (SECU) introduced the https://www.ncsecufoundation.org/SECU Bridge to Career Program, a new scholarship in partnership with the North Carolina Community College System. The initiative aims to help remove financial roadblocks for unemployed and underemployed students seeking careers with sustainable wages in their communities.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research awarded $25 million for cancer research in 2018 and awarded 28 V Scholar grants, 16 Translational grants, and 30 Designated grants to support research on all types of cancer.

Jaki Shelton Green, North Carolina’s ninth Poet Laurate appointed by Governor Roy Cooper, will be installed at an induction ceremony on Monday, February 18th at 4:00 p.m. at the old House Chamber at the NC State Capitol. Reservations are needed for this free event.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Institute of Politics named Pat McCrory and Mike McIntyre as Fellows with the institute for Spring semester. McCory was the 74th Governor of North Carolina. McIntyre is a nine-term Congressman from NC’s Seventh District. Each fellow will lead a series of not-for-credit seminars over an eight-week period.
Orange County Rape Crisis Center welcomed new staff: Ashley Parks, Clinical Therapist; Hailey Leiva, Prevention Coordinator; and Tracey Miller, Community Education Director.
Haven House earned a nationwide Points of Light Service Enterprise Certification through the Triangle Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership Center. The center is taking applications for the next round of Service Enterprise Initiative training in April and May.
