The Forsyth Promise received $150,000 from StriveTogether.  Grant funds will be used to improve core community education outcomes by reducing racial and socioeconomic achievement gaps.

Onslow Caring Communities Foundation awarded $34,880, from their community grantmaking fund and the Dallas Fred Allen Endowment, to local nonprofits supporting the community. 

Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation will provide $200,000 to Salem Academy and College’s Step Up for Salem campaign which was created to raise $10 million to fortify the school’s economic stability.

Chiesi USA, Inc. donated more than $800,000 through its corporate social responsibility program. The Cary-based pharmaceutical company partnered with the Me Fine Foundation, Children’s Flight of Hope, the North Carolina Football Club, and the Durham Bulls to make donations to Triangle nonprofits.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research received nearly $8 million from the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund since its 2015 inception. The fund awarded 23 grants at 17 cancer centers nationwide to support research dedicated to the aggressiveness, therapeutic responsiveness and ultimate outcomes experienced by cancer patients from diverse ethnic populations, as well as supporting researchers from minority populations.

Corinth Holders High School welcomed Veda Tucker, spokesperson for Rachel’s Challenge, a program designed to inspire students to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is named after Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999.

The American Conservative Union Foundation released its ratings of the 2018 meeting of the North Carolina General Assembly. According to ACUF’s Year in Review, the North Carolina General Assembly’s overall conservative score improved compared to the 2017 session (from 64.21 percent to 70.94 percent).

Durham’s Partnership for Children collected more than 2,800 books for children across Durham County during their 13th annual Holiday Book drive with Barnes & Noble at Southpoint Mall.

The Me Fine Foundation premiered “See the Faces, Hear the Stories of Pediatric Illness & Medical  Crisis,” a new video featuring two families brought together by hospital social workers to help families in need and improve outcomes in pediatric care.

Louisburg College appointed Dr. Bonnie Suderman as Vice President of Academic Life and Dean of Faculty. Suderman previously served as Assistant Superintendent and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Antelope Valley College in Palmdale, California.

The Charlotte Post Foundation-funded afterschool literacy program produced its first grade-level readers at Walter G. Byers Elementary School in Greenville. Of 22 students in The Post Foundation program for the 2017-18 academic year, 19 showed improvement.

Chowan Community Funds Foundation named Lynne Layton as Board President and Dr. Robert Christian Ford as Board Vice President. Layton is a local mortgage lender with BB&T and Ford is co-owner of Chowan Animal Hospital.

StepUp Ministry celebrated 30 years of serving adults and children in the Raleigh community with a gala in January. Presented by First National Bank, the event raised $236,826 to support 2019 efforts to serve courageous men, women, and children.

United Way of Forsyth County conducted a point-in-time count of the homeless community on January 30th. The event is part of the National Homeless Information Project designed to measure and combat chronic homelessness. Volunteers in Forsyth County also provided bags of necessities to distribute to homeless men and women.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research will partner with SAGERSTRONG Foundation, in memory of Craig Sager, to fund research related to blood cancers, notably information on early dietary changes to arm cancer patients in their battle with the disease.

IBM received an award from WomenNC. Stephanie Trunzo, Global Head of IBM Cloud Garage, will accept the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women) award at Women NC’s 10th Annual Local-to-Global Forum on February 28th. Trunzo will also give the keynote address at this annual event on the status of women in North Carolina.

American Fundraising Professionals NC Triad Chapter and Guildford NonProfit Consortium will host “Five Donor Love Languages” on February 14th. Register by February 11th for the morning webinar in Greensboro or the lunch webinar in Winston Salem.

Women in Motion of High Point is accepting grant applications for local non-profits focused on helping address financial, health, and educational needs of working women in High Point, Archdale, Jamestown, Thomasville, and Trinity. Download applications and budget templates. 

The Office of Raleigh Arts seeks artists and art teams to create temporary installations and performance pieces at or near Dorothea Dix Park. Qualifications must be submitted by February 11th. Apply today!

HandsOn Northwest North Carolina is accepting nominations for the 2019 Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteers Service Awards. Individuals or a group of people who have given a substantial amount of time and talent to help others in the community can be nominated for special recognition in April. Optional information sessions are available on February 12th and 13th at the Winston-Salem Foundation.

North Carolina high school students will compete in a statewide Poetry Out Loud competition on February 16th at the Triad Stage in downtown Greensboro. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and coordinated by the North Carolina Arts Council and the Poetry Foundation, the event is free and open to the public.

WNC Nonprofit Pathways will host “Sustainable Strategic Planning for Nonprofits on Saturday,” on February 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Toe River Arts in Spruce Pine, NC. Seminar costs $140 plus a $10 materials fee. Pathways scholarships are available for enrollment.

Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in Pittsboro invites volunteers to help with various tasks on Saturday, February 23rd. Lunch and tours available after a morning of work from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sign up to help out.

Make-A-Wish of Central and Western North Carolina will hold the annual blue-tie Wish Ball at The Westin Charlotte on Friday, February 22nd. Event includes cocktail reception, silent action, dinner, live action, raffle, program, and dancing. Reserve tickets and book sponsorships.

Marbles hosts sixth annual Future Me Kids Career Fair on Saturday, February 23rd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Event is free with $7 museum admission. Made possible with support from Greene Resources, Inc, the kids career fair brings professionals together with children and families to explore a myriad of professions. 

WomenNC‘s 10th year anniversary event is Thursday, February 28th at One Eleven Place in Cary, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Guests include Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, and the CSW Juanita M. Bryant scholars and their RTI Global Gender Center mentors in a panel presentation highlighting research projects on the status of women in North Carolina. The Women’s Professional Forum (WPF) Foundation is receiving letters of intent now through February 28th from organizations that can demonstrate how their program or service empowers women and/or girls and directly connects to the WPF Foundation purpose. Foundation For The Carolinas opened a second round of grants for Hurricane Florence recovery efforts in NC and SC. Priority goes to groups serving residents in FEMA-disaster-declared counties. Most awards will be up to $50,000, though exceptional projects will be considered for up to $100,000. Previous recipients can apply. Register before March 15th at noon.

North Carolina Council of Charitable Gift Planners presents “Charitable Giving with Retirement Assets: Strategies, Traps, and Solutions” at Duke University on March 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guest speaker: Chris Hoyt, Vice Chair of the RPTE Charitable Group and Professor of Law at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Location details sent after registration confirmation. $45 council members, $55 AFP members, and $65 non-members.

The North Carolina Arts Council in Education Grant application process is open. Programs fund school-based artist residencies and arts education projects across the state. Application deadline is March 1st. Learn about grant categories.

Foundation For The Carolinas opened the Longleaf Fund grant cycle for organizations that serve at-risk children and youth in Fayetteville, Rocky Mount and Charlotte, NC, and Spartanburg and Florence, SC. Capital grants will be awarded from $10,000 to $150,000. Learn about program guidelines and completion dates. Deadline for submission is Thursday, March 7th. 

NC Rural Center hosts third annual Rural Day on Tuesday, March 26th at the Raleigh Convention Center. Advocates across the state will discuss issues facing rural communities and engage with leaders about solutions. Governor Roy Cooper and Lietenant Governor Dan Forest, via video address, are confirmed guest speakers. Register for convocation, legislative roundtables, and celebratory reception.

IntraHealth International hosts their annual SwitchPoint conference at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw April 25th and 26th. Speakers include Fati Abubakar, a documentary photographer and health worker in Nigeria. Discounts rate available for groups of 10 or more. Registration is open.

The 5th annual Create Good conference takes place May 9th and 10th at the Durham Arts Council. “Elevating Nonprofit Communications” is the the theme. One-day passes start at $90. The Guildford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center hosts their annual Gala on Saturday, March 23rd at Starmount Forest Country Club. Tickets are $175 for sit- sit-down dinner guest speaker, Sarah McBride or $50 for the Green Party after the Gala hosted by Jessica Mashburn and Evan Olson.

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) of the Triangle is hosting a Valentine’s Day Committee Kickoff and Recruitment Mixer to network with nonprofit peers and meet YNPN committee chairs and board members. RSVP to attend at The House on February 14th in Durham at 6:00 p.m. 

BJH Foundation for Senior Services is accepting applications for grants to fund programs designed to meet the physical, mental, and social needs of Jewish adults in North and South Carolina. March 8th is the deadline to apply.

The Western and Eastern North Carolina chapters of The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on North Carolinians to turn the state purple for Alzheimer’s on Thursday, March 14th for is 2019 North Carolina Advocacy Day. This free event takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the NC Museum of History. Registration is required to ensure an accurate headcount. 

FailFest, a storytelling event for nonprofits to celebrate epic fails, happens Thursday, March 14th at The Maywood in Raleigh from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. First 50 people to check-in receive a coupon for a free beer. 

The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center hosts The Great Human Race on March 23rd at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.  The 5K run and community walk also includes a Dog Walk, Kid Run, and performances by local artists. Register for the race.

Dance Project hosts 3rd Annual Dance Marathon on Saturday, March 30th from 9:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m. at the Van Dyke Performance Space and LeBauer Park at the Greensboro Cultural Center. This fundraiser supports the School at City Arts and includes 12 hours of classes, performances, and prizes.

CenterFest visual artist applications are open and must be submitted by May 1st. More than 34,000 guests are expected to attend Durhams’ outdoor arts festival in September. 

The Carolinas Planned Giving Conference takes place April 29th through May 1st at the Kanuga Center in Hendersonville, NC. Co-hosted by the NC Council of Charitable Gift Planners and the SC Planned Gift Council, the conference features Claire Meyeroff, President of The Planned Giving Agency. Registration is open.

Easterseals UCP will partner with Capitol Broadcasting Company (WRAL-TV) on the Walk With Me Triangle event on June 1st in Raleigh. Sign up for this family-friendly day supports Easterseals UCP programs for children and adults living with disabilities, special needs and mental health challenges.
