The Women’s Fund of North Carolina, held by the North Carolina Community Foundation, recently awarded $16,000 in grants to organizations across the state.

North Carolinians gave generously over the past year, and most charities and nonprofits receiving those donations used them effectively, says a report released Monday from the North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office.  The just-released 2017-2018 North Carolina Secretary of State Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division Annual Report states that charities and nonprofits licensed by the State collected $45,440,494.45 during the 12-month period recorded.

The state’s Clean Water Management Trust Fund will help conserve lands and protect waterways serving millions of North Carolinians through $20.1 million in grants awarded late last week to help fund 52 projects from the mountains to the coast.

 A $1 million gift to Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment will allow the school to establish a research laboratory in “environmental exposomics,” an emerging scientific field that assesses the cumulative effects of environmental contaminants on human health.

Governor Roy Cooper presented six distinguished North Carolinians with the North Carolina Award, the state’s highest civilian honor, at a ceremony Friday, November 16th at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Urban Ministries of Wake County raised more than $92,000 at last Tuesday’s Stone Soup Supper fundraiser. Approximately 800 guests were in attendance at NCSU’s McKimmon Center.

Thanksgiving Day, November 22nd, the Durham Rescue Mission hosted its 44th Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner with the help of over 500 volunteers.

In conjunction with Raleigh Rescue Mission’s Gobbles to Go Outreach Program, Concord Hospitality associates and other volunteers from across the Triangle gathered to assemble and deliver more than 800 meals to mostly housebound, elderly community members on Thanksgiving Day.

Designed for Joy’s first anniversary celebration on October 23rd saw 70 guests in attendance and over $9,000 in contributions.

To honor all those who have served our country, Western Governors University (WGU) is offering $750,000 in scholarships for veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and military family members who want to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in high-demand fields including IT, business, K-12 education, and health professions, including nursing. Applications are now being accepted through December 31st for the WGU Salute to Veterans Scholarship.

AFP NC Triad Chapter is offering three scholarship opportunities for AFP Membership. AFP will award one scholarship for Professional Membership and two for Young Professional Membership.

The North Carolina Department of Information Technology is advising people to carefully monitor solicitations and other communications they receive during the coming holiday season.
