Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) is pleased to announce it has awarded 461 scholarships totaling more than $2.1 million to students enrolled in high school, community college and university programs for the 2015-16 academic year. A total of $2,103,570 in scholarship funds was awarded through a variety of programs administered by SVCF.

Each purchase provides ten meals to hungry children through the World Food Programme USA, Children’s Hunger Fund. In just 1 month, cuddle+kind has raised more than $260,000 (1000% of their initial fundraising goal) and has committed more than 80,000 meals.
Water For Life, a nonprofit organization raising awareness and providing clean, safe drinking water to children and families in developing countries, has surpassed their campaign goal of $250,000 to send water to Cambodia. Currently they are working to send sustainable personal MINI filters to Kenya and India.
On October 16th, A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) hosted its 12th annual Hedge Fund Roctoberfest and raised nearly $500,000 at its NYC fundraising event. On the 22nd, the 4th annual ALTSO Roctoberfest took place in Chicago. ALTSO provides free treatment to children who have lost their limbs in traumatic accidents or suffer from congenital disabilities.
Since 2011, Young People Matter has used over $600,000 in funding to provide emergency shelter for 3,147 “unaccompanied” young people who found themselves homeless in Atlanta. Since there is no place that is open 24 hours for young people in Atlanta, YPM is fundraising this holiday season to build 24 Hour Housing, “YPM Village”, in Mozley Park.
New York Life will donate $20,000 to aid wildfire relief efforts in the western states with a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross designated for Northern California and a $10,000 donation to Okanogan County Community Action Council for wildfire recovery in Eastern Washington.
The Launch NY Seed Fund was announced earlier this year along with an initial award of $200,000 from The John R. Oishei Foundation. Now Launch NY is pairing its traditional fundraising methods with increasingly popular online method using a platform created by one of its former clients, GiveGab, an Ithaca-based company serving the nonprofit market, and Good Monster, another former client who offers social media and other marketing communications services from their homebase in Syracuse.

J.B. Pritzker, a Chicago based venture capitalist released paper he co-authored with The Bridgespan Group making the case for increased investments in early childhood development. The paper goes on to provide 13 research-based investment opportunities that private and public funders can pursue immediately to improve outcomes for children, families and the nation’s economy, with a focus on evidence-based programs that support low-income infants and toddlers.
Graebel Companies, Inc. was honored as with the Gold Environmental Leader award at the 16th annual Environmental Leadership meeting at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver, Colorado. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, in partnership with the Pollution Prevention Advisory Board and the Colorado Environmental Partnership presented the award based on outstanding environmental achievements that help keep the state of Colorado a desirable place to work and live.

Voices For Children Foundation, a Miami non-profit organization advocating for children in foster care, and presenting sponsor Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson P.A., served as hosts to approximately 400 attorneys, judges, elected officials, community leaders, volunteers and supporters at the 21st annual “Be A Voice” Awards Luncheon at October 23rd. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has established October 25-31, 2015 as National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The CDC reports: “Today, childhood lead poisoning is considered the most preventable environmental disease among young children, yet approximately half a million U.S. children have blood lead levels above 5 micrograms per deciliter, the reference level at which CDC, recommends public health actions be initiated. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and CDC are committed to eliminating this burden to public health.”
Gerald W. Smith has been appointed the new Director of Community Engagement for the Macomb County Habitat For Humanity. Smith comes to Habitat Macomb after serving as the Senior Manager of External Affairs for Comcast-Michigan.
Services for the Undeserved (SUS) will honor Valerie Stanback at the SUS Annual Benefit-An Evening of Opportunity. Valerie has been apart of Sus since 2008.
Blackbaud appoints Mary Beth Westmoreland Chief Technology Officer. Westmoreland’s scope expands from Senior Vice President of Product Development for mass market solutions to now include leadership of Blackbaud’s worldwide technology strategy and planning across the company’s entire solution portfolio.

In partnership with loveisrespect, the 2015 Mary Kay Truth About Abuse Survey aims to explore how Americans’ understanding of domestic violence is changing, and gauge attitudes with respect to this evolving issue. One thousand men and women nationwide participated in the online survey in September. This survey is apart of Mary Kay’s Don’t Look Away campaign. The Mary Kay Foundation have given $50 to domestic violence prevention and awareness programs.
AmeriCares has delivered emergency medicines and relief supplies for families in the northern Philippines affected by the typhoon that occurred in mid October. AmeriCares deployed an emergency response team from its Manila office to deliver hygiene supplies and medicines to hard-hit Nueva Ecija Province.
E.A.T, End Allergies Together, an organization that strives to bridge the $450 million gap in research into food allergies through donations. E.A.T will donate 100% of the net proceeds will go directly to the most promising treatments and solutions involved in root of the cause, medical treatment, and food desensitization.

The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Kitchen Table Award. Key Food Stores Co-Operative, Inc, Dole Packaged Foods and Captain Planet Foundation at PS 316 Elijah Stroud Elementary School in Brooklyn have teamed together for a special Learning Garden for the school. Together, these three organizations joined forces to offer PS 316 Elijah Stroud students the opportunity to interact with the environment through a learning garden, while expanding their palates and learning about food origins.
