The Academy of Medical Sciences received a pledge of £600,000 from the Dennis and Mireille Gillings Foundation towards a pilot program to develop two cohorts of innovative new leaders in medical science. This pledge, along with a £750,000 commitment from the UK Government through their Investment in Research Talent, provides a total investment of £1.35m towards creating the leaders able to build the UK’s life science industry into a global hub for clinical research and medical innovation.
Goldsky Asset Management contributed an initial A$100,000 in funding to secure premises as well as donating 25 percent of its client management fees on an ongoing basis for the Sleep Safe Sleep Sweet initiative in the Tweed Shire, Australia. The gift has helped the Jane and Ken Grace Foundation with the purchase of a mini-bus.

University of Calgary President Elizabeth Cannon and Aga Khan University President Firoz Rasul signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate international co-operation toward advancements in human development, global health, social justice and pluralism. The partnership promotes knowledge sharing, education and research collaborations, student internships and faculty exchanges in diverse areas.
Transparency International selected the late Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and Spanish whistleblower and campaigner Ana Garrido Ramos as winners of the 2018 Anti-Corruption Award. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference in Copenhagen on October 22nd.
mothers2mothers held the third annual Cycle2Zero event in the Eastern Cape in South Africa in October. 30 participants cycled for four days across the country to raise funds for life-saving education, services and medical care.

Master Jun Hong Lu, the Ambassador for World Peace and spiritual teacher of 10 million followers, was presented with several awards and honors in London, UK. In recognition of the excellence of Master Lu in the area of education, religion and philosophy on the international stage, the University of the West of Scotland awarded him the position of Lecturer in the area of Buddhism and Philosophy. Master Lu was also honored with the title “Outstanding International Ambassador for Philanthropy” by the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust.
The Aznavour Foundation unveiled its inaugural project, the Aznavour Centre, on the eve of the 17th session of the Francophonie Summit to be held in Yerevan, Armenia. The Aznavour Centre will open its doors following a complete renovation of the building, to be undertaken by architect Aris Atamian.

IntraHealth International’ s 2018 International Conference on Family Planning will take place November 12-15 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The RSPB and Tristan da Cunha government are partnering with BirdLife South Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs (South Africa), Island Conservation, The Fitzpatrick Institute (University of Cape Town, South Africa), Zoological Society of London, World Land Trust, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the Rothschild Foundation, to develop The Gough Island Restoration Programme, set to begin in 2020.
The American Academy in Rome is accepting applications for the 2019 Rome Prize through November 1, 2018. The Rome Prize supports innovative work in the arts and humanities. Ranging from five months to two years, the thirty fellowships include a stipend, room and board, and individual work space at the Academy’s eleven-acre campus in Rome.
The Department for International Development is now accepting applications for the latest £20 million round of UK Aid Match. The UK Aid Match invites applications from charities working to achieve sustained poverty reduction and to achieve the Global Goals, and particularly encouraging proposals from wildlife and conservation charities.
