SHIFT NC has been awarded a 5-year grant from the federal Office of Adolescent Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help Durham health centers improve services for teens. The funding will help launch a new initiative called All Together Now: Making Health and Referral Systems Work for Young People.
Strowd Roses, Inc. charitable foundation announced that it has awarded $284, 510 to community nonprofits in 2015. Strowd Roses’ grants support arts and culture, education and literacy, animals, affordable housing, the environment, youth, seniors, immigrants and more.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a cancer research funding organization, announced it has awarded more than $20 million in cancer research grants to 79 recipients this year.

On Sunday, October 18th, The Mint Museum held a bilingual Sunday Fun Day where patrons learned about ten important works of art created for the museum and collaborated with artist Andrea Vail to create a fiber installation.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted a naturalization ceremony at the North Carolina National Guard headquarters in Raleigh on October 15th. Approximately 60 candidates, including some military service members, will be naturalized.
The Women’s Collective Giving Grantmakers Network National Leadership Forum was held October 15-17th. The Forum is an educational conference and celebration of women’s collective giving and provides networking opportunities and features inspirational speakers in the field of philanthropy, educational workshops, and panel discussions.
Prevention Partners, a state and national leader in guiding schools, 
hospitals, and workplaces to address the leading causes of preventable disease, hosted its second annual Healthy Together NC Summit on Tuesday, October 6th. The summit, sponsored by Cone Health, featured two distinguished panels of speakers and awarded former Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker with the North Carolina Prevention Excellence Award.
The Board of Directors of International House and the 2015 Gala Committee their 27th Annual Benefit Gala, Chinese Culture Lights the World on Saturday October 17th. The Gala will feature a silent auction that will benefit International House.
The 2015 Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk was held last Saturday, October 17th. The event included the Survivor Ceremony and Adult and Kids’ Lifestyle Change Awards, a one- and four-mile walk, and the first-ever Pooches on Parade costume contest. The Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk is sponsored locally by Wake Forest Baptist Health. All funds raised at the Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education programs.
The Salvation Army partnered with Ruff Ryders Raleigh for a motorcycle ride at the Judy D. Zelnak Center of Hope. The ride will help collect donations of coats to help those in need this winter season.
The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) recently launched a search for prospective partners in Raleigh, Durham, and Charlotte to operate their newly improved business center program in areas with substantial minority populations and minority-owned firms. The MBDA will award 29 individual cooperative agreements to operate MBDA Business Centers beginning April 1st, 2016.
