Pro-Vision receives a $450,000 gift from The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation names their 2018 MacArthur Fellows, Johnson & Johnson Vision launches worldwide campaign to #spotlightsight in honor of World Sight Day, and more.

Pro-Vision received a $450,000 gift from The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation. The donation will contribute to the purchase of two aquaponic greenhouses for the urban farm located on Pro-Vision’s campus, which seeks to create meaningful connections between the farm, local growers and the community.

The Barr Foundation and The Klarman Family Foundation are expanding their partnership with the Barr-Klarman Massachusetts Arts Initiative, a $25 million investment over six years to strengthen the adaptive capacity and financial health of arts organizations from across Massachusetts. 29 organizations will receive multi-year, unrestricted operating grants.

The Aetna Foundation has awarded more than $2.4 million in grants to 25 nonprofits across the U.S. as part of its larger Building Healthy Communities initiative.

The Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services 10th Annual Hudson Valley Bike Ride raised over $700,000 for The Jewish Board’s health and human services programs, which help 45,000 New Yorkers of all religious, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds each year who live throughout the five boroughs and Westchester.

The Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Charitable Foundation Fund is awarding 12 nonprofits providing services to children and youth in Southeast Michigan grants totaling $483,220. The DADA’s fund is built by donations from its annual Charity Preview at the North American International Auto Show. The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has managed the fund since its inception in 1998.

The MacArthur Foundation named 25 recipients of their 2018 MacArthur Fellowship. The Fellowship is a $625,000, no-strings-attached award to extraordinarily talented and creative individuals as an investment in their potential.

The Chandler Foundation has appointed award-winning social entrepreneur Mr. Tim Hanstad as its CEO. Mr. Hanstad will be responsible for leading the Chandler Foundation’s mission to promote inclusive prosperity and well-being. His appointment follows a rebranding of the organization from the Cassia Foundation to the Chandler Foundation.

The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy’s board of directors selected British A. as the Foundation’s new president and CEO, effective October 1st.

The Simons Foundation launched the Center for Computational Mathematics, the fourth computational center launched as part of the foundation’s new Flatiron Institute. The center, led by mathematician Leslie Greengard, will develop new mathematical approaches, algorithms and software to push the boundaries of scientific computing across many disciplines.

Johnson & Johnson Vision is launching a worldwide campaign to #spotlightsight in honor of World Sight Day on October 11. Through its ongoing support of Lions Clubs International Foundation’s Sight for Kids and Himalayan Cataract Project, Johnson & Johnson Vision will provide 100,000 children with access to vision screenings and 1,000 sight-restoring procedures to cataract patients. Johnson & Johnson will also be donating $1 to these two initiatives for each photo the public uploads to the company’s Donate a Photo app.
