On December 22nd, 2015, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation awarded $600,000 to six agencies assist area residents with basic needs. Funding will help these agencies provide Genesee County residents with food, shelter, and other services.
All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine received more than $200,000 from Jabil this year to help children with brain disorders. The donation will help the hospital’s recently established Johns Hopkins All Children’s Institute for Brain Protection Sciences which includes neuroscience programs such as neurology, neurosurgery, epileptology, neuro-oncology, neuroradiology, and others.
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has announced a second round of Nonprofit Capacity Training grants for staff of organizations working on Detroit’s revitalization. The Knight Foundation is investing an additional $115,000 in the program, which will be distributed to 23 nonprofits. Organizations receiving grants include the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Southeast Detroit Business Association and Urban Neighborhood Initiatives.
Seven Colorado communities were each awarded up to $55,000 for a LAUNCH Together planning grant to promote the social and emotional health and well-being of children and families. Baby Bear Hugs, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pueblo, Denver’s Early Childhood Council, ECHO & Family Center Early Childhood Council, Jefferson Center for Mental Health, Mesa County Health Department and Tri-County Health Department were among those granted funds.
The Jewish Women’s Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago awarded $397,500 to 21 exceptional projects that improve the lives of Jewish women and girls in Chicago and around the world.
Climate Ride issued $875,011.00 in grants to 125 nonprofit organizations working on climate, conservation and active transportation issues in 2015– a 20 percent increase over 2014 grants. 28% of grants are designated for bicycle coalitions and active transportation work, and 72% of grants are focused on conservation, climate and environmental work. Climate Ride will be expanding from 7 to 10 events in 2016.
The VWR Foundation awarded two Legacy Grants to the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation and Quench and Connect. Quench and Connect was awarded $20,000 in support of its Uganda Science Education Project and the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation in Annapolis, MD was awarded a $50,000 grant to support its Girls-Only STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs.

The New Americans Campaign announced that 31 new Americans from 25 countries took part in a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. President Obama spoke at the ceremony, which marked the 224th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights.
Source1 Purchasing partnered with the nationally recognized Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the company has committed to doing “at least one event per month” in conjunction with Feeding America.
Miracle Flights, a health and welfare flight organization, reported 492 flights coordinated for those in need of out-of-state medical care during November 2015. This comes as an increase from the 490 and 436 November flights reported in 2014 and 2013, respectfully.
Legacy Foundation announced that it is the recipient of the 2015 Prudential Leadership Awards for Exceptional Nonprofit Boards.

Catholic advocates will gather in Washington, D.C. this January for the 
Catholic Social Ministry Gathering, centered around the theme Called to Live Mercy in Our Common Home. Catholic Charities USA will sponsor several components of the conference, which will offer the opportunity to network, celebrate, and advocate together on shared issues.
FACE Africa will host their 7th Annual WASH Gala in New York City on March 26th, 2016 in commemoration of United Nations World Water Day.
Applications are now open for the 2016 Alan Shepard Technology in Education Award. Given annually by the Astronauts Memorial Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Space Foundation, the award recognizes contributors to technology in the education field in both formal and informal environments.
