The Michigan Health Endowment Fund has awarded the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan a grant of $2.5 million to support initiatives that improve access to healthy food for seniors and children throughout southeast Michigan.

The Jerome L. Greene Foundation, which supports projects that focus on the arts, education, health, and social justice, has appointed Karen Brooks Hopkins to its board of directors. Ms. Hopkins, former president of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, is the Senior Fellow in Residence at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Friends of the Earth U.S. has promoted Michelle Chan to vice president of programs where she will lead program and campaign planning and develop major organizational strategies. With more than 20 years’ experience, Chan is Friends of the Earth U.S.’s longest-serving staff member.
Exponent Philanthropy’s 2016 Foundation Operations and Management Report details how foundations create change. The report identifies seven grant-making strategies that lead to outsized impact among member foundations.
Lord & Taylor‘s first Charity Day of 2016 took place on Saturday, January 16 to benefit the Look Good Feel Better charitable program. All fifty Lord & Taylor stores participated in the “new year, new you” theme in an effort to raise funds for Look Good Feel Better, which is dedicated to changing the way people with cancer approach their disease by helping them deal with the appearance side effects of treatment, and reminding them that they are beautiful inside and out.
The board of directors of Conner Prairie has selected Norman O. Burns II of Richmond, Va., as the new president and CEO. Burns will succeed Ellen M. Rosenthal on January 27th. Rosenthal retired from the museum’s top position on January 4th, after 12 years at the helm.

Grantmakers in the Arts will be holding a Web Conference on February 2nd, entitled “Socio-Emotional Impacts of the Arts in Early Childhood: 15 Years of Research”. At the web conference, which is open to the public, Professor Eleanor D. Brown and Sunil Iyengar will lead the discussion and present their findings.
Detriot Friendship House will be participating in the Kroger Annual Food Drive on Saturday, January 23rd. This year, Friendship House will help two stores, and is requesting twice as many volunteers to help with both locations. To volunteer, contact Detriot Friendship House.
On January 21st, UNICEF and the International Center for Transitional Justice will launch the “Education and Transitional Justice: Opportunities and Challenges for Peacebuilding” research report at the Danny Kaye Center. A light lunch will be served, and Saudamini Siegrist, Roger Duthie, and Henk-Jan Brinkman will be among the speakers.
