Special Olympics North Carolina to host Over the Edge, Habitat for Humanity of Wake County names new members and officers to their the Board of Directors, The United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County awards more than $18,000 in grants to local artists, and more.

The United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County awarded more than $18,000 in grants from its Regional Artist Project Grant to individual artists in Wake County.

The Northern Albemarle Community Foundation awarded $111,000 in local grants from the HCWGMW Fund in Elizabeth City to organizations serving the poor and youth-related needs in Pasquotank, Perquimans, Camden and Gates counties.

TXG Capital have named Carmaletta Hinson as the winner of their annual eco scholarship. Hinson graduated from Kenston High School and will be attending Case Western Reserve University located in Cleveland, Ohio in the fall.

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County named new members and officers of the Board of Directors including George Aiken, Savvy Homes, Dr. Marvin Connelly, Wake County Public Schools, Michele Grant, formerly of the City of Raleigh, and Amy Watkins, York Properties.

8.8.16 4-H_revised540 NC youth attended this year’s State 4-H Congress. The event included: presentations, leadership and citizenship training, service opportunities, officer elections and more.

The Foundation for the Carolinas‘  Nish Jamgotch Jr. Humanitarian Award was awarded to Jeffrey Balek, a volunteer at Y Readers, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s literacy program for students in grades K-3 who are reading below grade level.

United Way of Henderson County and FamilyWize announced that local community members have saved $703,795 on prescription medications through the organizations’ partnership and creation of prescription savings card.

SAFEchild‘s board of directors added seven new members for 2016. New board members include Ann Beal, Brian Berk, Kacie FOre, Robert Glausser, Michael Minotti, Matt Schanz, and Lindsay Tripp. 

The Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina recently acquired 377 acres in the Ivy Creek watershed of the South Mountains, bringing the land trust’s 20-year protection record to a total of 50,322 acres.

In partnership with the Office of Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines and the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement, Forsyth Go Red For Women Sponsor Novant Health has screened 1,984 women across the Triad during the first and second quarters of 2016.

Third Space Studio’s 2015 Individual Donor Benchmark Report is available now with more specialized data for small and medium nonprofits.

The SAFE Haven for Cats 2016 Run for Their Lives 5k will take place on Saturday, October 1st in Raleigh.

The Carying Place’s Ninth Annual Labor Day “Race for Home” takes place on September 5th. The event benefits the homeless, working families with children in our life skills and short-term transitional housing program. 

8.8.16 Mint Musuem_RevisedRenowned sculptor, Ben Owen III will hold a visiting artist presentation on August 10th at the Mint Museum.

GreenHill is hosting a second installment of the NC Artist Outreach Project, with assistance from the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation. The NC Art Outreach Project is designed to provide exposure to North Carolina artists by facilitating a dialogue with a nationally recognized artist, critic and curator. 

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences released it’s calendar for August, events include World Elephant Day, Natural Selections, Final Friday, and Science Saturdays. 

Activate Good is seeking volunteers for numerous different organizations including Compass Center for Women and Families, Horses for Hope Barn and the Triangle Land Conservancy

Special Olympics North Carolina will host Over the Edge in Raleigh on September 30th and October 1st. Qualifying fundraisers will rappel 20 stories down the Wells Fargo Capitol Center. 

Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge will hold its Annual Benefit for the Animals on October 22 in Raleigh. 

The National Folk Festival announced the schedule and Festival footprint featuring a total of 122 separate performances; 18 demonstrations of arts, cooking, and sports in the N.C. Folklife Area; and dozens of N.C. Arts Marketplace artisans.

Tickets are now on sale for Triangle Family Services‘ (TFS) “Wake Up with TFS” to be held at PNC Arena with best selling author Pete Early. 

In celebration of a 25 year partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Asheville Presbyterian and United Methodist churches, the organizations will kick-off construction of two new homes in Shiloh. 

The Humane Society of Alamance County is hosting the “Dog Days of Summer” Challenge, an online fundraiser to support their medical assistance program, Emily’s Fund. The challenge runs through August 11th.

“Own Your Philanthropy”Community Foundation of Henderson County’s 2016 Annual Luncheon, will take place Wednesday, August 24th at Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock.

Scientists Evaluate Food Safety Practices to Help Support Nonprofit Food Pantries

Researchers from North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have done an in-depth analysis of food safety at nonprofit food pantries that distribute food directly to people in need. The research has already been used to develop a suite of free, online resources for food pantries, which has been used by nonprofits across North Carolina.
