With 200 runners participating, Hayes Barton Baptist Church’s 5K race raised $4,000 for StepUp Ministry.

Atlantic Tire & Service donated $25,000 to the Children’s Home Society.

Brian G. Albea, a recent graduate of West Henderson High School and a rising freshman at Brevard College, is the 2015 recipient of the $1,000 Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited William L. Arbuckle Memorial Scholarship.

As part of its 20th anniversary celebration on July 29, 2015, Biogen gave back to the community with a $20,000 donation to the Center for Inquiry-Based Learning.

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust has created a decade-long $30-$40 million Great Expectations program to create early childhood success for 90 percent of all financilally disadvantage children in Forsyth County. MDC of Durham has been enlisted by The Trust as the activiating agency for this intiative.

The John Rex Endowment announced a four-year grant of $769,271 to support the implementation of programs to increase the capacity of WakeMed Physician Practices – Pediatrics to promote positive social, emotional, physical, and cognitive health of children. Triangle Family Services has also been awarded a $34,055 grant for a nonprofit capacity building project.

Murray and Nancy Duggins have pledged $300,000 to the Reeves Fine Arts Building project for Methodist University‘s Nancy and Murray Duggins Theatre under the Capital Campaign project. This pushes the total for Capital Campaign to $35 million dollars.

In 11 years, the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation has invested over $100 million in North Carolina through the deferral of SECU checking account holders’ monthly maintenance fees.

Transitions LifeCare has been selected to participate in the Medicare Care Choices Model, which provides Medicare beneficiaries who qualify for coverage under the Medicare Hospice Benefits and dually eligible beneficiaries to receive supportive care.

James and Connie Maynard’s Children hospital at Vidant Medical Center has be certified to promote infant safe sleep practices and CarolinaEast Medical Center has been recertified by the North Carolina Healthy Start Foundation. Additionally, Carolinas Healthcare System- Cleveland has now been recognized as Leader in Policy, Parent Education & Modeling and Community Outreach.

On July 24, in partnership with Wake County Chick-Fil-A locations, Urban Ministries of Wake County held Christmas in July Food Drive which benefitted the local community. Each person was asked to bring four non-persishable items to receive a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich.

Durham Circles of Support, by the Genesis Home, will be hosting an information session on Thursday, August 20th so the public can learn how to help formerly homeless households sustain housing and increase their level of sufficiency.

The Summer Feeding Program at the Boys & Girls Clubs will serve nearly 15,000 meals to children and teens at the three Boys & Girls Clubs locations on Raleigh Blvd this summer. Partnering with the USDA and NC Department of Public Instruction, Boys & Girls Clubs helps to bridge the food insecurity gap for youth in some of the Raleigh area’s most deserving neighborhoods during out-of-school summer months. The Boys & Girls Clubs along with the NC Department of Public Instruction, School Nutrition Services, Safe and Healthy Schools Support Division, will be hosting a Summer Feeding Awareness Gathering Friday, June 26 11:00am – 12:30pm at the Ralph E. Capps Teen Center in Raleigh.

Student Action with Farmworkers

Student Action with Farmworkers will celebrate their 2014-2015 year’s program accomplishments with a theater performance and a new student documentary presentation, “I Am, I See, I Think, I Wonder” at an end of Summer celebration on August 8.

Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) is looking for 60 perennial donors. For each sustainer that gives $10/month, the Fund for Democratic Communities will give SAF $100 to help fight for farmworkers rights.

On Tuesday, August 4 join the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte and the Durham Arts Council for a free screening of Spiral Bound. The event will take plase at the PSI Theatre in Durham.

Duke HomeCare and Hospice presents Heart Healthy Living by Rushad Shroff, MD, FACP on August 19th. Dr. Shroff will discuss ways to prevent and manage cardiovascular disease and updates on dietary links to cardiovascular disease.

The Hispanic League is now taking applications for vendors and sponsorships for their 23rd Annual Fiesta 2015. It will be held on Saturday, September 26 and is the largest Latin American festival in the Triad.

Bayer CropScience helped Passage Home celebrate the start of the school year by hosting the nonprofit’s summer campers for a day of Making Science Make Sense fun. Bayer’s science education program gave fifth graders hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills through various experiments covering pollination, molecules, chemical reactions and more on Wednesday, July 29.

The North Carolina Philanthropy Conference, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, will occur on August 20th. Be sure to register for the conference which will take place in Greensboro at the Koury Convention Center.

International House of Charlotte has more than 60 volunteer and intern positions available such as administrative roles, citizenship tutors and more.

The Beehive Collective is accepting proposals to support organizations working with Raleigh’s documented and undocumented immigrant population. Application closes August 31, 2015.

On July 1st, Curamericas Global started a new partnership with the Sierra Leone Annual Conference and Mercy United Methodist Hospital to implement a one-year pilot program in Bo District, Sierra Leone. The project will focus on reducing death in newborns, infants, and young children, as well as death in mothers during pregnancy and childbirth.

On November 12, 2015, The North Carolina Awards Gala will take place to acknowledge those in fine arts, literature, public service, and science.
