The American Heart Association’s Winston-Salem Heart Ball raises $232,000, the North Carolina Arts Council launches Arts Across NC podcast, The 8th annual NCTech4Good Conference will take place June 6th and 7th, and more.

The American Heart Association’s Winston-Salem Heart Ball, which took place on Friday, April 28, raised $232,000 through tickets, tables sold, sponsorships, silent and live auctions, and individual donations, including a $22,000 increase through purely philanthropic Open Your Heart bidding. All funds raised through the Winston-Salem Heart Ball benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education.

Wells Fargo and Military Warriors Support Foundation presented a newly renovated, mortgage-free home and a payment-free vehicle to two veterans at a Military Reception in Wilmington on May 1st.

On April 29th, Impact Education Foundation hosted a conference titled The Roundtable 2017 to gather 30 public school teachers from The Triangle and surrounding areas to NC State for an in-depth discussion about the state of public schools from the teacher’s point of view

The Carteret Community Foundation hosted their 31st annual Golfing for Grants golf tournament to raise funds for local community grantmaking on April 28th. 

Training Industry, Inc coordinated a blood drive for employees and corporate neighbors with the American Red Cross in Raleigh for National Volunteer Week, April 23rd through April 29th. 

The Mint Museum will celebrate the “Year of Fashion,” spanning the museum’s next fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017 and continuing through June 30, 2018. The “Year of Fashion” will center around three exhibitions to be on view throughout the year, and is also accompanied by a major financial gift to launch a Fashion Initiative at Mint Museum Randolph to enhance the storage, study, exhibition, and development of innovative immersive programs around fashion in years to come. 

Hank Donaghy, LUTCF, ChFC, CLU, FSS, a financial advisor with MassMutual Carolinas, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), received the “Outstanding Eagle Scout” Award from the Mecklenburg County Council of The Boy Scouts of America.

The Triad Health Project hosted Dining for Friends on Saturday, May 6, at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum

Cary Family Dental hosted their Sixth Annual Dentistry From The Heart event on Saturday, April 22. At the end of the day, Dr. Allan Acton and a team of dentists, staff and volunteers provided approximately $47,000 in free dental care to 165 adults.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary as a state agency, the North Carolina Arts Council has launched Arts Across NC, a new podcast series celebrating the rich history of the arts across North Carolina.

Members of Women United, United Way of Henderson County’s affiliate group for women, hosted a celebration at Flat Rock Playhouse on Saturday, April 29 to honor fourteen fifth grade girls from Upward Elementary School who have completed the Girls EMpowered Program this spring. The GEM Program was created by Upward staff and Women United members this year to give fifth grade girls a boost in self-confidence and support before they transition to middle school.

ArtsGreensboro, in partnership with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Guilford Merchants Association, and the North Carolina Entrepreneurship Center at UNCG, recognized Scuppernong Books as their 2017 Arts in Business Award winner at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce small business awards luncheon at the Van Dyke Performance Space on May 2nd. 

The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter hosted the 16th Annual Walk to End Lupus on May 6 at the Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte to raise awareness about lupus and raise funds for research.

AFP NC Triad Chapter is presenting a seminar on “Powerful Events Where Philanthropy Thrives: How to Engage New Donors With Four Vital Strategies” on May 11th at the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium. 

BikeWalkNC will participating in the Tour de Fat Bicycle Festival put on by New Belgium Brewing, proceeds for the event will benefit local nonprofit partners. The event will take place in Asheville on May 20th and in Charlotte on May 27th. 

WakeEd Partnership is now accepting applications for the 2017-18 Teacher Innovation Grants. The deadline to apply is May 15.

The 32nd annual NC Watermelon Festival in Murfreesboro will take place August 2-5.

The Orange County Arts Commission will host one annual grant cycle in the spring, instead of two cycles in the spring and fall. The 2017 Grassroots Grant cycle opened April 3 and will close June 2. Awardees will be notified by August 1.

The 2017 NC Philanthropy Conference will be held on Thursday, August 17 at the Durham Convention Center.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is sponsoring the Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults course. This course, facilitated by Dr. Glenda Clare, will be hosted by the Durham County Library, Southwest branch on Tuesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 18th from 5-9pm.

The 8th annual NCTech4Good Conference will take place June 6th and 7th at the Solution Center in Durham
