The Mario Batali Foundation has opened Books for Kids, a new Las Vegas Library for at-risk children.  This new library marks the third Southern Nevada library that has been funded by the Mario Batali Foundation and the 11th library it has funded nationwide.

4.4 Dannon Institute revisedThe Dannon Institute awarded $15,000 to New York area girls for ideas to improve health and wellness in their schools at the Dannon Institute Girls 4 Tomorrow event. At the  workshop, girls from higher needs schools pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in a head-to-head competition.

New York University Stern School of Business has newly established The Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Family Scholarship, made possible through a $1.8 million gift from The Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Foundation. This scholarship will support high-achieving, low-income students who are admitted to Stern’s Undergraduate College for Fall 2016.

Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores, the FlintNOW Foundation and WDIV-TV raised more than $1.1 million dollars for the Flint Child Health & Development Fund through a statewide telethon benefiting Flint Health & Development Fund/Community Foundation of Greater Flint

The CDC Foundation has received a $1.5 million grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation that enables the CDC to develop a comprehensive substance use prevention and sexual risk behavior reduction program for adolescents in high-risk communities in three states-Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

ConAgra Foods, Inc. awarded each of the winning teams of its 2016 Sustainable Development Awards a $5,000 grant from the ConAgra Foods Foundation to apply toward a sustainability-focused community service project in their area. 

Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville donated a 560 linear foot 6-foot-high chain link fence to Global Outreach Developments International at their headquarters in Nashville’s historically underserved Hopewell neighborhood in Old Hickory, Tenn. on Good Friday, March 25th.

The Navient Foundation has contributed $7,500 to the House of Heroes to support their mission of honoring and serving military and public safety veterans.

Macomb County Habitat for Humanity has received a $20,000 grant from the Shelby Township Community Foundation for their A Brush With Kindness Program.

The Carson Long Military Academy has received a $50,000 Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit donation from the Highmark Insurance Group.

The Arab American and Chaldean Council has been awarded a $100,000 grant from DTE Energy Foundation for its Skilled Trade Worker Program, which is part of the organization’s Workforce Investment Act initiative. Funds will be received over a two-year period.

4.4 Make a wish Georgia revisedSix Flags Over Georgia and Make-A-Wish Georgia partnered to name 7-year-old Symeon Honorary Park President For a Day at Six Flags Over Georgia. Symeon, who was presented with the Key to Six Flags, helped open Bugs Bunny Boomtown, shadowed Kaetzel throughout the day, talked with guests, answered questions and brought smiles to all.

Boulder Crest Retreat was recognized with the Nonprofit of the Year Award for innovation in the mental healthcare area, and the retreat’s Founder and Chairman, Ken Falke was on the HillVets 100 list for 2016. 

4.4 San Diego Blood Bank originalOn Thursday, March 24th, Cygnet Theatre was proud to host a pre-show blood drive supporting the San Diego Blood Bank. Eighteen people participated (including one cast member) and 13 units were collected. This will touch the lives of at least 39 people. Nine people donated for the very first time.

The Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida released the results of its first Northeast Florida Nonprofit Compensation and Benefits Survey. Under the leadership of the Nonprofit Center, the nonprofit sector will use the results to identify best practices and develop programming to strengthen local nonprofit performance within the five-county area of Northeast Florida. 

GEICO Corporate Community Citizens committee at its Woodbury office teamed up with the Interfaith Nutrition Network to make baskets for children who otherwise may not get that experience this Easter. Associates organized a drive to donate toys, treats, and all the essential trimmings so that 127 children were surprised with their very own Easter baskets. 

The Toniic Institute has selected Adam S. Bendell as its next chief executive officer, commencing July 1st, 2016. Bendell brings entrepreneurial, financial, operational, marketing and business development expertise to Toniic, along with experience managing global teams.

Conn’s, Inc. brought cheers and excitement to Houston’s Jackson Middle School on March 24th as University of Houston and NBA legend, Clyde Drexler, headlined the event to celebrate college basketball in Houston. Drexler explained the role dedication and teamwork played in their success and how he used those lessons as a foundation to become an Olympic Gold Medalist, NBA champion, Hall of Famer and, most important, a better person.

Nina Smith, Executive Director of GoodWeave International, is a winner of the Schwab Foundation’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year award. Ms. Smith and honorees who are “correcting market failures with tools of capitalism” will be recognized at the 2016 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, which will be held from June 26th to 28th.

The Association Forum has announced its new Incoming Board Members, including Geoffrey Brown, CAE, CEO of National Association of Personal Financial Advisors; Colleen Lawler, CAE, Vice President, Membership & Marketing Strategy, American Medical Association; Don Welsh, President and CEO of Destination Marketing Association International; and Butch Spyridon, President of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation.

The Aetna Foundation‘s 2016 Cultivating Healthy Communities grants program will award up to $2 million in grants to support communities’ efforts to become healthier places to live, work, learn, play and pray. The program focuses on supporting projects that benefit underserved, low-income, and minority communities and address the social determinants of health and participants’ physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.The deadline for Stage 1 applications is April 15th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. ET.

The 18th annual Smiles For Life Campaign has begun and allows patrons who visit local Crown Council dentists at Great Hill Dental to donate the cost of the whitening.  The foundation uses donations from the community to help fund worthy children’s charities and humanitarian work, both locally and around the world. The campaign runs from March 1st until June 30th.

WBUR is launching a new fundraising initiative themed to Boston’s annual marathon with an on-air fundraiser lasting 26.2 hours to maximize support for public radio while minimizing programmatic changes. From 7:48 a.m. April 7 through 10 a.m. on April 8th, WBUR will conduct its annual spring pledge drive, inviting community members to join #teamWBUR in order to support strong, independent news and programming.

Artist Trust’s 2016 Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) application is now available. GAP, one of Artist Trust’s flagship funding programs, is open to Washington State artists of all disciplines. The deadline to apply is May 23rd, 2016, 10:59 pm. Through GAP, a total of $90,000 will be awarded to 60 recipients, plus one one-month residency to Centrum, an artist residency in Port Townsend, WA, and a $500 stipend.

Walgreens returns as the exclusive retail partner of the second annual Red Nose Day, helping raise funds to fight kids’ poverty. The campaign’s iconic Red Noses – which people wear in support of the official Red Nose Day on Thursday, May 26th – returned to store shelves at Walgreens and Duane Reade locations nationwide.

A new quality improvement project at Parkland Memorial Hospital called ICU Liberation hopes to free intensive care patients from serious, often permanent declines in physical and cognitive function resulting from the intensive care experience. The 18-month initiative sponsored by The Society of Critical Care Medicine selected only 77 U.S. intensive care units to participate. The Parkland Surgical Intensive Care Unit is one of only two ICUs in Texas selected to participate in this project.

Newbridge is now accepting enrollment for its newest health care training program, Hospital Nursing Assistant. Healthcare facilities have an increased demand for qualified Hospital Nursing Assistants, and this Debt-Free training opportunity will lead to employment growth and security. The program begins April 25th, 2016.

City Harvest’s Board of Directors has offered to extend the deadline to have gifts matched for four more weeks, benefiting a portion of the nearly 1.4 million men, women and children facing hunger in New York City. By making a contribution to City Harvest online, your gift will automatically be matched and put to work helping City Harvest rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste and get it to people in need.

Hundreds of West Texans will head to Albany for the 30th annual Polo on the Prairie, a long-standing fundraiser benefiting The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The festivities will begin with a full day of polo on Saturday, April 30th at the Musselman Brothers’ Lazy 3 Ranch.

April is National Volunteer Month and the Neon Museum is taking the occasion to shine a spotlight on its extraordinary roster of volunteer docents (tour guides). All through the month. The museum has 37 volunteer docents who give nearly 1,500 tours per year. Neon Museum volunteer docents are available for in-studio and Neon Boneyard interviews throughout the month of April based on availability.

The Space Foundation has launched a new partnership with the Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. As part of the partnership, the Space Foundation will be a Corporate Level Member of the Chamber. In return, the Chamber will receive access to a variety of Space Foundation programs and services.

Catholic Charities USA leadership is offering the development opportunity “2016 Leadership Institute: Integrating Leadership and Management with Theology and Spirituality”, which will take place  from May 15th to 20th, 2016 near Tampa, FL. This unique formation program is designed especially for leaders and emerging leaders within the CCUSA network.

To benefit its programs in New York City, CYCLE Kids is holding a food and wine tasting reception with Award Winning Chef Seamus Mullen (Tertulia, El Colmado), Iron Chef Marc Forgione, Chef Erin Shambura (L’Artusi), Chef Baker Mark Fiorentino, and Frank Celenza of the TV show Frankie Cooks.

This summer four Class Acts Arts artists will serve as instructors for the Maryland State Department of Education’s Maryland Artistry in Teaching Institute.  Solomia Gorokhivska and Andrei Pidkivka both of Gerdan and Mike Noonan of the Unified Jazz Ensamble will be among the Lead Teachers in music.  Carien Quiroga will serve as one of only two Master Teachers in Fine Arts. 

DoTERRA Wellness Advocates Hope and Kenneth Clark have created Globalife Journeys so others can experience the eye-opening and rewarding privilege of serving people around the world. The goal of Globalife is to help mission trip participants take notice of the circumstances of the world around them and then act on service opportunities that will change people for the better.

In 2016, Code for America is working with the City of New Orleans to build digital tools to connect jobseekers, training providers, and employers across New Orleans. The project is a partnership among Code for America, the City of New Orleans, and the Markle Foundation, as part of its Skillful initiative.

The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls is hosting a morning devoted to exploring women’s issues in the region in relation to business, social service and education. The 2016 Blueprint Report will be launched, an in-depth community needs assessment looking at life in Chester County through a gender lens. The event is free, however seating will be limited so pre-registration is required.

On Wednesday, April 13th, the International Center for Transitional Justice and the Center for Global Affairs is holding a conversation about the impact of denial on efforts to achieve reconciliation and provide justice to victims in the Balkans, El Salvador, Armenia and Indonesia.

Nuspay has entered into an agreement with Uddipan Energy Limited to service UDDIPAN with assisting the poor, underprivileged & disadvantaged. Nuspay has agreed to provide mobile access to its core digital currency payment network to an estimated 500,000 UDDIPAN beneficiaries in Bangladesh.

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis is constantly working to improve their services and to create programs that will best serve their clients as a whole. By focusing on what works and finding ways to meet the individual needs of their clients, even some of the most challenging populations to serve have a place to be rather than be on the street.
