The Wawa Foundation presented the American Red Cross with the lead gift of $500,000 to support their No More Fire Deaths Campaign, on Thursday, April 14th.

4.18 give a note original$3,150 was raised for the Give a Note Foundation at the 31st annual Music in Our Schools Month, where the Boston area Arthur Murray Dance Centers put on a dance marathon to raise money for music education.

The Philanthropy-Joining Forces Impact Pledge received $7 million in new investments to strengthen services and support for millions of veterans and military families across the United States. With their commitments, PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc., Orange County Community Foundation, and CarMax and The CarMax Foundation join the 32 philanthropic organizations and corporations that have pledged since 2014. Through grants and other forms of support, nearly $283 million has been committed in the Impact Pledge to date.

The Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation endowed a $25,000 scholarship for a University of North Texas undergraduate student studying gerontology or end-of-life care. The organization will also provide financial support for two end-of-life care community education programs offered through UNT’s College of Public Affairs & Community Service, and five professional internships with aging-related government, non-profit or private organizations.

Henry Schein, Inc. awarded the inaugural Henry Schein Cares Medal for animal health to the Portland Animal Welfare Team (PAW Team). The PAW Team was selected from a field of three finalists, which also included the Humane Society for Seattle-King County, of Bellevue, Washington, and Helping Paws, of Escondido, California. The PAW Team will receive $15,000 in cash from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Inc. to support its work. In addition, each finalist will receive $10,000 worth of product from Henry Schein, Inc.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation will award nearly $25 million for ambitious plans to create fairer, more effective local justice systems across the country. The Foundation is awarding 11 jurisdictions grants between $1.5M and $3.5M over two years, and an additional nine jurisdictions will be given $150,000 grants. The grants are part of the Safety and Justice Challenge, a national initiative supported by the Foundation with an initial $75 million to reduce over-incarceration by changing the way America thinks about and uses jails.

On Wednesday, April 6th, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City conducted by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez commemorated the fifth anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated portions of Japan in 2011 at an inspiring benefit concert at Carnegie Hall.

Petland, Inc. has named the Heartland Canines for Veterans organization as one of its national charities.

The six recipients of the 2016 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship include Vivek Maru, Oren Yakobovich, Mallika Dutt and Sonali Khan, Chuck Slaughter, and Bryan Stevenson.

Talie Cloud, a member of the Sanger Future Farmers of America Chapter in Sanger, Calif., was celebrated at a White House event for students who excel in science, on Wednesday, April 13th. The science fair celebrates the accomplishments of student winners in a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math competitions throughout the United States.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) welcomed Anastasia Staten as the new Executive Director of the ESA Foundation, the charitable and philanthropic organization for the U.S. video game industry. As Executive Director, Staten will manage the ESA Foundation’s fundraising and daily operations, as well as cultivate partnerships to expand and promote the Foundation’s positive social impact, among other responsibilities.

The Vodafone Americas Foundation named eight finalists in its eighth annual Wireless Innovation Project, an annual competition for wireless-related technologies aimed at solving the critical issues facing the world today. The finalists include: LifeGuard Drone, Neopenda, Panthera’s PoacherCam, Portland State University’s SweetSense Sensors, Sunfarmer’s Energy X, UC Berkeley and University of Michigan’s GridWatch, UCLA’s EyeSee, and UCLA’s Air Quality Mapping Project.

Hillel International will set up operations in Poland to better serve the needs of its growing Jewish population. Based in Warsaw, the new Hillel will bring together a generation of Jewish students, recent graduates and young adults in Poland to participate in diverse programming, social events and educational and professional development opportunities.

XPRIZE appointed Marcus Shingles as chief executive officer. Shingles will work closely with XPRIZE’s executive team, board of directors and trustees to develop and carry forward the organization’s strategies for continued global leadership in driving “moon-shot” innovation that tackles the world’s grandest challenges.

Camp To Belong (CTB) is gearing up for its weeklong summer camp experience. Each year, CTB helps strengthen sibling bonds by reconnecting brothers and sisters separated via the foster care system. The upcoming camp season runs from June 12th to August 27th. 

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada‘s annual gala Dessert Before Dinner will take place on Saturday, September 10th at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. An array of the city’s most high-profile women will be honored for their contributions to the Girl Scouts, as well as the community.

American Family Housing (AFH) and Soroptimist International of Westminster are co-hosting the annual Mother’s Day Ladies Tea and Day of Beauty on April 23rd to honor AFH beneficiaries who are experiencing homelessness and economic challenges.

The UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF) will their annual benefit TASTE FOR A CURE on Thursday April 28th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This benefit honors notable individuals and companies that are committed to philanthropic efforts and raise much-needed funds for cancer research to benefit JCCC.

The Nonprofit Tech for Good webinar series is being offered at a time to better accommodate nonprofits located in the United States and Canada. There are a total of five webinars in the series and all of the webinars will occur at 1pm EDT and be presented by Heather Mansfield of Nonprofit Tech for Good.

The Foundation for Child Development is accepting applications for the 2017 Young Scholars Program, which supports policy and practice-relevant research that is focused on the early learning and development needs of children who are growing up under conditions of economic insecurity and social exclusion. 

The law firm Ober|Kaler launched its annual Ober|Kaler Community Grants Program for nonprofits that administer programs focused on educating, clothing, sheltering or feeding disadvantaged youth in Baltimore City or Washington, D.C. Completed applications must be received by Monday, August 1st, 2016.

The Urban Institute will host “Catalyzing City and Anchor Institution Partnerships” on Tuesday, April 12th in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, this event will bring together leaders from government, philanthropy, universities, and hospitals to discuss strategies for cultivating mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships that promote local prosperity.

PRS, Inc. and the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board are teaming up to help people living with mental illness receive coordinated health care through a new program called BeWell, made possible through a grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
