Carolina Cup to benefit North Carolina Coastal Federation, New Frame represents the NC PTA, Bailey’s Fine Jewelry donates over $76,000, and more.

Bailey’s Fine Jewelry donated more than $76,000 to local charities in 2017 through the jeweler’s A Time to Give program, the most in program history. 

Through a community fund set up at Community Foundation of Henderson County, Horizon Heating and Air Conditioning and Hannah Flanagan’s awarded a total of $24,000 this year to 18 area nonprofits.

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina received a donation of $50,000 from Greg Lindberg, founder and CEO of Eli Global, a privately owned federation of independent companies operating in 15 different sectors worldwide.

 John Rex Endowment awarded grants totaling more than $266,000 for the prevention of childhood injury in Wake County.

The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc.’s third annual Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI), held the week of February 26 to March 2, raised more than $63,000 from 1,166 donors. The LBDI highlights the challenges that face the over 1.6 million North Carolinians living in poverty and the programs and services of the JLC that help combat the effects of poverty.

Student Action with Farmworkers welcomes Maria Gonzales as their new operations manager.

North Carolina PTA will entrust New Frame, a North Carolina-based lobbying and communication firm, to represent the organization in its continued efforts to advocate for every child. New Frame’s work with North Carolina PTA will be lead by Jason Joyner, Brian Lewis, and Skye David.

The Northern Albemarle Community Foundation welcomed Brian Beasley of Camden, Rodney Walton of Elizabeth City, and Angela Cole of Elizabeth City to their board of advisors.

The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce welcomed Bryan Fox as their new Vice President of Public Policy on March 12th. His responsibility includes evaluating the issues affecting businesses within the county and throughout the state and region, while working together with the Chamber’s Local, State and Federal Government Committee and the Board of Directors, to develop a legislative agenda focused on the ways in which government can be more effective and supportive of a strong business environment.

Dr. Brian Britt, a professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech, will be featured during the annual Womack Lectures at Methodist University on March 21st. Lectures are free and open to the public.

Johnston County Community Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for projects funded from its community grantmaking fund. Funds are available for nonprofit organizations that serve general charitable needs in Johnston County. Visit the North Carolina Community Foundation for information about applying. The deadline for submitting applications is noon April 17.

North Carolina Coastal Federation is the designated charity for The Carolina Cup, the world’s largest festival combining paddle races, clinics, product displays, and entertainment, which will be held April 18th-22nd.

The Center for Strategic Philanthropy and Civil Society welcomes two featured speakers from the Barr Foundation at their next Foundation Impact Research Group seminar on Wednesday, March 28th at 4:30 at the Sanford School of Public Policy. President Jim Canales and Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees Barbara Hostetter will engage in a dialogue about the evolution of the Barr Foundation during a time of growth and change.

Inmates to Entrepreneurs is now accepting applications for their small business class, which begins April 25th.

The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits is now accepting proposals for its upcoming conference, Power Play: Disruption for Goodwhich will be held September 12th-14th at The Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center in Research Triangle Park.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and The North Carolina Housing Coalition will hold Bringing It Home: Ending Homelessness in NC on April 30th and May 1st at The McKimmon Center in Raleigh. Registration is open now.

AFP NC Triad Chapter and Guilford Nonprofit Consortium will present the webinar How To Grow Your Monthly Giving Program Without Breaking the Bank on Thursday, April 2nd at 8:30 a. m. and noon.

ArtsGreensboro, in partnership with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Guilford Merchants Association, and the North Carolina Entrepreneurship Center at UNCG, is accepting nominations for the 2018 Arts in Business Award. Nominations for the 2018 Arts in Business Award are due to ArtsGreensboro no later than 5 pm on Thursday, March 29Nomination forms are available at artsgreensboro.org.

Teach For America – Eastern North Carolina is holding its annual Policy, Advocacy, and Community Engagement Summit in Raleigh on April 14th.  This year’s headliner is Charles Blow of the New York Times, and presenters include James Ford, 14-15 NC Teacher of the Year, and LaTanya Pattillo, Gov. Cooper’s Teacher Advisor. The event is open to the public, and registration is live.

The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence will hold Moving Forward: Redefining Justice in the Domestic Violence Movement, from May 22nd-24th in Raleigh.

The Guilford Green Foundation will hold their Moulin Rouge Gala & Green Party on Saturday, March 24th from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Durham’s Partnership for Children, a Smart Start Initiative, is launching two new initiatives to strengthen early literacy and support young children and families in Durham. The initiatives, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Reach Out and Read, are both made possible through funding from the North Carolina Partnership for Children and will help the Partnership achieve its mission of ensuring all children enter school ready to succeed.

Glenaire Retirement Community will hold the 2nd annual Glenaire 5K on Saturday, April 7th in Cary. This year, when registrants chooses team Wheels4Hope from the existing drop down menu, Glenaire will donate 10% of the registration fee to Wheels4Hope. Additionally, 10% of donations to the 5K made under team Wheels4Hope will be donated to Wheels4Hope.

The HorseFriends Annual Open Benefit Show will take place Saturday, June 9th at Flintrock Farm in Reidsville. All proceeds benefit HorseFriends.
