All Babies and Children Thrive (ABC Thrive) was established by a $2 million gift from Duke alumna and trustee Laurene Meir Sperling and her husband, Scott M. Sperling, through the Sperling Family Charitable Foundation. The Bass Connections Challenge at Duke will add $1 million in matching funds for a total of $3 million.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000 to Leadership North Carolina (LNC) to increase participation from rural communities and underrepresented groups in future LNC cohorts. 

The NC GreenPower Solar School program Pilot Year Four launched on January 2nd. Any North Carolina K-12 school may apply for our matching grant opportunity to receive a 3-5 kW solar array, complete with a weather station, real-time monitoring, curriculum and training for teachers. Applications are due February 28th.

United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce named recipients of their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the arts in our area by businesses, organizations and individuals, at the 8th Annual State of Arts and Culture in Wake County at the NC Museum of Art.

The Morrisville Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 27th Annual Meeting on January 30th at Prestonwood Country Club, from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. The event is anticipated to draw more than 320 business and community leaders.

The Mint and The Arts & Science Council partnered together to host Connect with Culture on January 26th-27th.

The North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition (NCHRC) received a report of its 10,000th community-based drug overdose reversal. Since August 1st, 2013, NCHRC has distributed overdose prevention kits to people at risk for drug overdose and their loved ones all over the state. 

On January 24th, the Board of United Way of Henderson County elected new members and officers for the coming year. Joining the Board of Directors are Elisha Freeman,  Kristen Freeman, Judy Hansen, Lew Holloway,and Johnna Reed.

Kidznotes has won the 2018 Emmy Award for “Best Program Featuring Visual or Performing Arts” for their  documentary short film, “The Music Inside.”

Piedmont Farm Animal Rescue is offering special Valentine’s cards that feature photos of Refuge residents, Moscato and Wisteria.

International House is hosting “Star-bless’d, Star-cross’d, a Valentine festival weekend of poetry, music, and art beginning February 16th in Charlotte.

NC State’s HR Benefit Office is hosting the Woman 2 Woman Financial Series Lunch-and-Learn on February 6th.

Guilford Green Foundation will host the 2018 GGF Gala & Green Party on March 24th.

The Charlotte Post Foundation is hosting a panel discussion on the future of Medicaid in North Carolina on February 8th at the Booth Playhouse.

The Create Good Conference will take place May 3rd-4th at Durham Arts Council.

Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy will present a community conversation on February 21st at First United Methodist Church in Uptown Charlotte.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work will hold a Career Day and Job Fair on Monday, March 26th, from 10:30am-1:30pm at the School of Social Work. Additionally, there will be a continuing education workshop at the School of Social Work from 2:00-4:00pm following Career Day. 

In February 2018, The Hill Center will celebrate the connection between creativity and learning differences with a month-long initiative called Hill Discovers. Through Hill Discovers, The Hill Center will celebrate and inspire the creativity of Hill students and alumni, showing how individuals with learning and attention issues can turn their struggles and unique perspectives into inspiration, innovation, and artistic expressions.

 The next Triangle Nonprofit Communicator’s Lunch, “I Survived Fundraising Season & This is What I Learned! Fundraising Communications Tips“, will be held on February 20th at the Google Fiber Space,  518 West Jones Street in Raleigh.
