Lucy Daniels Center receives a $5000 Caterpillar Foundation Grant, Urban Ministries receives a $9750 Duke Energy Foundation grant, NC Sports Hall of Fame announces inductees, and more.

The SECU Foundation scholarship program has been renewed for 2015. Since 2004, $46 million in scholarships have been made available to approximately 4,700 North Carolinians.

The Lucy Daniels Center received a $5,000 grant from Caterpillar Foundation to support Lucy’s Book Club, which provides educational programming to support healthy development for children in the Triangle and build their literacy skills.

Urban Ministries of Wake County received a $9,750 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to expand its Open Door Clinic, which aims to serve as many as 1,600 low-income patients by the end of next year.

The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2015 induction class. The 10 new members, Jeff Bostic, Joe Bostic, John Clougherty, Freddie Combs, Rick Hendrick, Gene Littles, Jerry McGee, Lenox Rawlings, Charlotte Smith, and Andrea Stinson, will be enshrined during the 52nd annual induction banquet on Friday, May 15, at the Raleigh Convention Center.

24 Hours of Booty has added Chasse Bailey-Dorton, M.D., Nicole Bills Golomb, Hillary Lacouture, Peter Levinson and Ben Wilhelm to its board of directors. Headquartered in Charlotte, 24 Hours of Booty integrates community fundraising and cycling to support cancer survivorship and navigation programs.

Garrett Garland has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Purple Heart Homes. Garland replaces Dale Beatty, who is moving to the Executive Staff as the Chief Development Officer.

The Me Fine Foundation’s “Hope for the Holidays” program saw over $74,000 in toys and gifts distributed to nearly 70 families at Duke Children’s and the North Carolina Children’s Hospitals in December.

The Healing Place of Wake County was recently recognized by the Oxford House of North Carolina for their service to the community. The Healing Place received acknowledgement of one million beds of shelter provided to homeless men and women during their path to recovery.

The Salvation Army of Wake County’s Project FIGHT (Freeing Individuals Gripped by Human Trafficking) received the Survivor Care Award. The program has served over 140 cases of human trafficking and trained over 4,000 people across the state in the past three years. Project FIGHT has also received funding to expand efforts statewide.

Jenna A. Robinson, Ph.D., has been named president and executive director of the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy, effective February 16, 2015. She will replace Jane S. Shaw, who is retiring. Before joining the Pope Center, Robinson worked as the E.A. Morris Fellowship assistant at the John Locke Foundation. She is a graduate of the Koch Associates Program sponsored by the Charles G. Koch Foundation.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas has announced Aimee Patterson its “2014-2015 Holiday Heroes” scholarship winner. For more information on the Holiday Heroes program, click here.

The Shore Grief Center has found a permanent location in Wake Forest in which to offer grief groups. With the new location, the center will be able to expand their offerings.
