11-2-16-sodexo_originalSun Life Financial has committed more than $17 million dollars to combating diabetes. They have also partnered with the Canadian Football League to launch an online risk assessment test. 

Elric Nielsen was named a Hero of Everyday Life for his leadership in combatting hunger in Calgary by Sodexo Canada’s Stop Hunger Foundation. The annual award, which includes a grant for $3,000 to be donated to the hero’s charity of choice. 

Spay Panama, has treated over 200 local dogs and cats in the District of Mariato, Republic of Panama. The initiative was led by Mariato local Cathy Mcgovern and supported by the Mariato community who helped fund a community-wide spay and neuter event to help stray animals. 

The Vodafone Foundation Instant Network team connected three new schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a team from Vodacom Congo and UNHCR.

Obakki Foundation launched a new scarf collection to fund six more fresh water wells in south Sudan. 

APOPO Mine Action Mozambique Project held a small closing ceremony to conclude the 2016 ammunitions clearance operations in the Malhazine bunker site in Mozambique. Over the course of the project, APOPO safely excavated nearly 39,000 individual items of explosive material totaling over 80 tons.

The Schwab Foundation in partnership with the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation announced Neichute Doulo, Entrepreneurs Associate (EA) as the winner of the Social Entrepreneur of the Year- India 2016.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif have been voted as the winners of this year’s Chatham House Prize.

Mothers2mothers‘ celebrated it’s 15th anniversary since starting in 2001, the organization has transformed the lives of thousands of mothers and families throughout South Africa. 

The 1947 Partition Archive and Tata Institute of Social Sciences recently hosted the Mumbai edition of the Voices of Partition event. Survivors of the mass riots that unfolded at the end of the British Raj in 1947 came together to tell their stories. 

Te Ipukarea Society project officers and New Zealand Department of Conservation as they traversed to improve the conservation of the Kakerori bird through the rat baiting tracks, which are crucially important in keeping rat populations low enough.

On 13 October 2016 in Jérémie, Haiti, children play at the Église Chrétienne Nan Lindy. Some 300 people have sought temporary shelter at the church. Countless homes were destroyed by Hurricane Matthew. More than one week after Hurricane Matthew, as schools re-open across the country, more than 100,000 children will be missing out on learning after their schools were either damaged or converted into shelters. Hurricane Matthew passed over Haiti on Tuesday October 4, 2016, with heavy rains and winds. While the capital Port au Prince was mostly spared from the full strength of the class 4 hurricane, the western area of Grand Anse, however was in the direct path. The cities of Les Cayes and Jeremie received the full force sustaining wind and water damage across wide areas. Coastal towns were severely damaged as were many homes in remote mountainous regions. International relief efforts are underway to provide food water and shelter to the people affected by the storm. An estimated 500,000 children live in the Grande Anse Department and Grand South Department in southern Haiti, the areas worst hit by Hurricane Matthew. UNICEF had prepositioned emergency supplies with national authorities to reach up to 10,000 people. On 8 October, six water trucks arrived in Jeremie and Les Cayes, the respective capital cities within the Departments. Additional water and sanitation supplies, such as water purification tablets, water bladders and plastic sheeting, have been dispatched to the most affected departments in the westernmost tip of Haiti. As of 10 October, UNICEF delivered blankets, buckets, water purifying equipment and cholera diagnostic kits. UNICEF is working to reinforce good hygiene practices, especially in temporary shelters, in order to minimize the outbreak of disease. An investigation is underway to confirm the areas affected by cholera, and to determine the cross-over with hurricane-affected areas.

Partners in Health are seeking donations to help support those in Haiti effected by Hurricane Matthew. 

A recent survey, commissioned by the Carton Council of Canada covering residents of Quebec and Ontario, reveals measures that would encourage consumers to place more food and beverage cartons in the recycling bin.

Three weeks since Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Haiti, UNICEF is seeking an additional $22.5 million to meet the increasing needs of children in the country, including in the hurricane-hit areas.
