SHIFT NC has been awarded a 5-year grant from the federal Office of Adolescent Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help Durham health centers improve services for teens. The funding will help launch a new initiative called All Together Now: Making Health and Referral Systems Work for Young People.

Strowd Roses, Inc. charitable foundation announced that it has awarded $284, 510 to community nonprofits in 2015. Strowd Roses’ grants support arts and culture, education and literacy, animals, affordable housing, the environment, youth, seniors, immigrants and more.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a cancer research funding organization, announced it has awarded more than $20 million in cancer research grants to 79 recipients this year.

Junior Achievement USA has ranked Greensboro-based Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina first in student growth, second in volunteer hours served, and fourth in class growth when compared nationwide.

On Sunday, October 18th, The Mint Museum held a bilingual Sunday Fun Day where patrons learned about ten important works of art created for the museum and collaborated with artist Andrea Vail to create a fiber installation.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted a naturalization ceremony at the North Carolina National Guard headquarters in Raleigh on October 15th. Approximately 60 candidates, including some military service members, will be naturalized.

The Women’s Collective Giving Grantmakers Network National Leadership Forum was held October 15-17th. The Forum is an educational conference and celebration of women’s collective giving and provides networking opportunities and features inspirational speakers in the field of philanthropy, educational workshops, and panel discussions.

 The business community honored first responders who went above and beyond the call of duty at the annual Greater Raleigh Chamber/Wells Fargo First Responders Appreciation Breakfast on September 24th.

Prevention Partners, a state and national leader in guiding schools, 10.19.15 Prevention Partners conferencehospitals, and workplaces to address the leading causes of preventable disease, hosted its second annual Healthy Together NC Summit on Tuesday, October 6th. The summit, sponsored by Cone Health, featured two distinguished panels of speakers and awarded former Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker with the North Carolina Prevention Excellence Award.

The Board of Directors of International House and the 2015 Gala Committee their 27th Annual Benefit Gala, Chinese Culture Lights the World on Saturday October 17th. The Gala will feature a silent auction that will benefit International House.

The 2015 Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk was held last Saturday, October 17th. The event included the Survivor Ceremony and Adult and Kids’ Lifestyle Change Awards, a one- and four-mile walk, and the first-ever Pooches on Parade costume contest. The Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk is sponsored locally by Wake Forest Baptist Health. All funds raised at the Tanglewood Heart & Stroke Walk benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education programs.

The Salvation Army partnered with Ruff Ryders Raleigh for a motorcycle ride at the Judy D. Zelnak Center of Hope. The ride will help collect donations of coats to help those in need this winter season.

The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) recently launched a search for prospective partners in Raleigh, Durham, and Charlotte to operate their newly improved business center program in areas with substantial minority populations and minority-owned firms. The MBDA will award 29 individual cooperative agreements to operate MBDA Business Centers beginning April 1st, 2016.

On October 12th, Head Coach David Cutcliffe brought Duke University’s football players, coaches, and staff to spend time with homeless children and families living at the Durham Rescue Mission’s Good Samaritan Inn.

10.19.15 DAC ThirdFridayThe Durham Arts Council showcased the work of Mary Anne Mitchell, Joanne Dumas, Stacy Crabill, and Stacey Lyanze at Durham’s Third Friday gallery tour on October 16th.

ENC Stop Human Trafficking Now hosted a human trafficking training session for healthcare providers on Thursday, October 15th.

On Thursday, October 15th, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity celebrated the dedication of three new Habitat homes located in its Hudson Hills neighborhood in West Asheville.

The Stars of Education Awards Gala was held by WakeEd Partnership on Wednesday October 14th. The Gala honored those who contribute to Wake County Schools in a positive and meaningful way. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help benefit WakeEd and sustain Wake County Public School System as a place for educational excellence.

The Autism Science Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting and funding autism research, announced today that Gregg Ireland will become its board chairman effective January 1st, 2016, following a unanimous vote by its board of directors

The Atlantic Coast Conference has partnered with United Way of Central Carolinas on a five-year agreement in support of a youth-education based charitable initiative associated with the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game. The partnership will focus on improving reading proficiency and attendance, key components to raising the high school graduation rate for at-risk students.

The 2015 Leadership Triangle Awards Gala presented by the 10.19.15 Goodman AwardCarolina Hurricanes is accepting nominations for its Goodman Award, which recognizes leaders in the community who are regionally minded and who exhibit that frame of mind in their personal and professional lives.

The ACC Foundation will host the 3rd Annual Reinhartsen 5K Run/Walk Saturday, November 7th to raise funds for the Steven Reinhartsen Scholarship.

Food Lion Feeds has partnered with Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC to host Food Lion Feeds Hunger Relief Day at the NC State Fair. Donations will help stock shelves of all seven food banks across the state for the holiday season.

The CROP Hunger Walk will host its 35th anniversary CROP Walk on Sunday, October 25th. The Walk will benefit several local nonprofits that help fight hunger in the Triangle.

10.19.15 Over the EdgeOver the Edge is sponsoring an opportunity to rappel Charlotte Center City’s Hyatt House on Saturday, November 14th, to benefit Special Olympics North CarolinaOver the Edge supports Special Olympics programs offering training and competition for nearly 40,000 people with intellectual disabilities in North Carolina.

The Triangle Community Foundation is accepting applications for the 2016 What Matters Innovation Award, a $25,000 grant a for creative solution to community problems.

The Triad Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will host the 23rd Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon to honor recipients’ contributions to philanthropy in the community. The luncheon will include a key note presentation from Elizabeth Phillips, Executive Director of The Phillips Foundation and an awards presentation

ArtsGreensboro announced that applications are available for the 2016 Regional Artist Grant program. Funding for this program is provided by the North Carolina Arts Council and matched by participating Arts Councils. Grants provide support to help exceptionally talented visual, performing, literary, and interdisciplinary artists pursue projects that further their professional artistic development.

Shore Grief Center‘s annual Walk Along the Shore will be held on 10.19.15 Walk Along the ShoreNovember 7th, 2015 to walk in memory of those who have passed on. The walk will take place through downtown Wake Forest.

The Council for Children’s Rights, Legal Services of Southern Piedmont, and Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte will honor local attorneys and advocates at the October 20th Pro Bono Awards, celebrating firms, attorneys and advocates who have donated their time and expertise to underserved children, families and individuals in legal crisis.

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, October 21st at the John Chavis Community Center to discuss the Raleigh Arts Plan Draft.

Attendees will have the opportunity to see the newly-built SECU Community House, meet new staff and board members, go over the highlights of the past year, and present the Mildred Berkeley Award to the volunteer of the year.

Hospice & Palliative CareCenter of Greensboro will host Spirit of ’45 Celebration to honor World War II Veterans on Sunday, October 25th. Area veterans and those wanting to attend are invited to dinner followed by entertainment featuring “Letters from Home” and a special recognition ceremony.

The Gordon Philanthropy Seminar Series at NC State University will host a talk by Josh Mizell, Assistant Controller for Smile Train, to discuss his organization. Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to solving the problem of unrepaired cleft lips and palates.
