The National Science Foundation presented a grant of $680,000 to Patricia Dos Santos, an associate professor of chemistry at Wake Forest University, for her mentoring program and biochemistry research.

The Golden LEAF Foundation awarded 19 grants totaling more than $12 million, and $9 million of these awards went toward supporting disaster recovery at its October Board meeting. 

1972 Meredith College graduate Elizabeth Triplett Beam gifted $1 million to Meredith College in Raleigh to name a foundation plaza in front of the recently renovated Johnson Hall.

Winston-Salem’s North Carolina Stroke Association awarded $45,560 to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie and $25,700 to Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton to ensure that residents of North Carolina have access to stroke care.

The United Way of Alamance County‘s Fall Fundraiser, featuring The Fabulous Lumpsters!, raised $24,500, providing grants for education, health, and financial stability programs and also for the organization’s community initiatives.

Through its summer Community Grants cycle, the Cumberland Community Foundation is making $307,500 in grants to nonprofit organizations.

The North Carolina Community Foundation received a renewal of National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations for the third time. 

UNC-TV hosted YNPN Triangle‘s professional development event where Jen Newmeyer, director of Digital Engagement and Fundraising, shared her advice and expertise on digital fundraising.

Middle school girls attending Charlotte Lab School will now be able to choose Project Scientist’s SciGirls Code program as an elective. SciGirls Code is a brand new curriculum specifically designed by PBS with support from the National Science Foundation that helps address the gender gap in computer science programs by sparking and strengthening girls interest, skills, and confidence as technology creators.

Bikers raised $13,917 for the USO of North Carolina and United States Veterans Corps by participating in various events associated with the Ray Price Capital City Bikefest

Since 2016, Circle Graphics has donated over 150 coloring canvases featuring creative designs and patterns to parents and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake while their child is hospitalized and receiving critical medical care.

The NC Community Development Initiative released a video commemorating the organization’s 10th year of its Youth Leadership Program. 

Charity Navigator recently compiled a list of highly-rated organizations providing relief and support to those affected by devastating wildfires in California. Donors can designate their donations to the cause on the organization’s website, and all listed charities have made their designation policies available on their respective websites.

US2020 awarded the US2020 STEM Mentoring Award for Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships to WakeEd Partnership. WakeEd is being recognized for two programs, SummerSTEM and World Café, that it facilitates in partnership with the Wake County Public School System.

The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center and the Executive Service Corps of the Triangle have teamed up to offer nonprofits the Service Enterprise Initiative, a comprehensive assessment and training that shows organizations how to leverage skilled volunteers.

The Potters of the Piedmont Festival will be held on November 11th at the Leonard Recreation Center in Greensboro. Potters of the Piedmont sponsors with Greensboro Urban Ministry‘s Feast of Caring and Mosaic-A Lifespan Studio. 

Methodist University will dedicate the newly constructed Gene Clayton Tennis Center on October 19th.

The Winston-Salem Foundation created two new grant making focus areas: Advancing Equity in Education and Building an Inclusive Economy to begin in 2019.

The Weatherspoon Art Museum will host a Blue Mountain: Forecast concert on October 26th following a pre-concert guided tour of Louise Fishman’s abstract expressionistic paintings at the Weatherspoon atrium.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) is accepting applications for its 2018 Sabbatical Program through November 2nd. ZSR’s Sabbatical Program provides veteran nonprofit leaders with a three to six-month break from work with an awarded compensation of $30,000 with $10,000 going to each organization for planning and transition expenses.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill launched its “For All Kind: the Campaign for Carolina” fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $4.25 billion by December 31st, 2022. This campaign intends to foster an innovation generation prepared to lead the world to a better future through research and scholarship, example and ethos.

Filmmaker Josh Howard will present a screening of his film “The Lavender Scare” at NCSU’s Hunt Library on October 23rd sponsored by the Raleigh Little Theatre.

Local grocery stores and three dozen congregations are teaming up with Greensboro Urban Ministry (GUM) for the spring #FeedGSO Community Food Drive on October 20th and 21st. Shoppers can contribute nonperishable food items to GUM’s food pantry at participating grocery stores. 

The City of Raleigh Stormwater Management will hold a stream clean up on October 21st at Biltmore Hills Park, 2615 Fitzgerald Drive, Raleigh.

The 2017 Arts Education Fair will take place on October 25th at Durham Arts Council, Inc. Over 40 Triangle area teaching artists and arts organizations will highlight arts programs, school performances, workshops, field trips, and other arts-in-education opportunities.

Raleigh-Cary Jewish Family Services will hold a free screening and discussion with the filmmaker of the award-winning documentary “The Illusionists” on 10/22 at the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Community Center.
