The AJ Fletcher Foundation announces its latest multi-year grant recipients, Housing for New Hope holds annual food drive, the North Carolina Deaf-Blind Association partners with the Apple Gold Group, and more.

The AJ Fletcher Foundation announced their latest grant recipients. In September, the Fletcher Foundation Board of Directors voted to approve grants to seven organizations, totaling $2,990,000 including multi-year grants.

In the months of August and October, the Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded 13 grants totaling $8.9 million to support workforce training, water/sewer infrastructure, equipment, education, infrastructure, and business needs in rural, tobacco-dependent or economically distressed areas across the state.

Duke Energy announced a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross to assist with the relief efforts in South Carolina and North Carolina due to the effects of the recent storm.

A groundbreaking was held October 6 for the new home for Harbor House of Johnston County – a safe haven for victims of domestic violence. SECU Foundation Board of Directors Chair McKinley Wooten, Jr. joined other community supporters and affiliated partners for the event, presenting a $500,000 grant which will assist with the construction of the 10,000 square foot residence that will provide additional space and privacy for shelter residents.

IntraHealth International held a gala fundraiser October 9 featuring four-time Emmy award nominee actress Sharon Lawrence and six-time Grammy award nominee singer-songwriter Nnenna Freelon. Proceeds will benefit the End Shame: Restore Dignity campaign that aims to fight obstetric fistula in Mali.

Class Acts Arts hosted its 3rd Annual Silver Spring Harvest Moon Festival Sunday, October 11.

Heart Math Tutoring, a nonprofit group dedicated to helping students in high-poverty concentration schools develop math skills and academic confidence, has added Pinewood Elementary School as a new school partner.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services participated in the Raleigh International Festival with a naturalization ceremony of 120 candidates on October 9. Senior U.S. District Judge W. Earl Britt administered the Oath of Citizenship, and Wake County Commissioner, Sig Hutchinson and Raleigh Council Member Eugene Weeks delivered remarks.

Housing for New Hope held their annual Family Food & Household Supply Drive on 10.12.15 Housing for New HopeOctober 10. Collected non-perishable food and household will go to the families and individuals that Housing for New Hope moves out of homeless shelters and into new homes.

Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that uses live music as a platform for social change, has announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors and six new members to its advisory board.

Family Care Center is the recipient of proceeds from the 38th Annual Miller Lite Amateur Golf Tournament held at Glen Oaks Golf Club on September 11-13.

The Mint Museum Randolph hosted an evening of poetry and music performances by local poets and musicians on October 7.

Converting Hearts Ministries will host their 2nd annual “Silent Auction” on November 19 to raise monies for the Scholarship Fund.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals NC Triad Chapter will hold a talk on October 27 titled “Spooky Fundraising Nightmares & Faux Pas” by Jan Knox, Director of Family Engagement and Philanthropy at High Point University. She will offer tips and strategies to avoid fundraising pitfalls.

The Joel Lane Museum House will present a lecture on “The Crucial Role 10.12.15 Joel Lane Museum House lectureof NC During the American Revolution” by Suzanne Adair on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 2 pm at the Visitors Center of the Joel Lane Museum House.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is offering high school and college students a scholarship opportunity for participating in “Holiday Heroes,” in which students host a blood drive in their community.

The Charlotte Post and The Charlotte Post Foundation are hosting a series of community conversations titled “Black Lives Matter Charlotte.” The first will be held on October 27 at Little Rock AME Zion Community Development Center.

On November 6, the NC Museum of History will open a new exhibit titled North Carolina’s Favorite Son: Billy Graham and His Remarkable Journey of Faith, which will explore his life and a ministry over seven decades.

The Apple Gold Group will partner with the North Carolina Deaf-Blind Association to host a Flapjack Fundraiser on Saturday, October 17, 2015. All proceeds will go toward a yearly conference, as well as to support service providers and sign language interpreters.
