Doug Hamilton and Don Vossburg
A new transformative scholarship program for LGBTQ+ students at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business is being made possible through a $2.2 million gift from alumnus Doug Hamilton and his partner of 35 years, Don Vossburg.
The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has awarded more than $11 million in grants to organizations and initiatives within southeast Michigan’s seven counties in areas including the arts, education, health, and housing and human services.
Brooklyn Community Foundation has selected the top five social justice nonprofit organizations of 2019 to receive its annual $100,000 Spark Prize, the only honor celebrating the most pioneering organizations advancing equity in the borough. The winning organizations—the first prize cohort to be entirely woman-led—will receive their awards at the Foundation’s Spark Breakfast on February 28th in Brooklyn.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council received 193 proposed transportation projects from various sponsors within the eight-county transportation management area seeking federal funding through the “2018 Call for Projects” application process. Approximately $920 million of flexible funding including the federal, state, and local match is authorized for programming in the next 10 years (FY 2019 – FY 2028). Application requests totaled $2.9 billion in federal funding requests.
The SunTrust Foundation awarded $19.5 million in grants in 2018 to more than 1,300 nonprofits and educational institutions to ignite financial confidence throughout the country.
Connecticut Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $96,000 to ten nonprofit organizations serving residents of 21 towns in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills. With these grants, the Foundation aims to build people’s pathways from poverty to prosperity and to support diverse and robust neighborhood, city and regional economies.
The HealthWell Foundation® has opened a new fund offering financial assistance to patients who are living with migraines. The new fund provides up to $4,000 in copayment or premium assistance to eligible patients who are living with migraines and have annual household incomes up to 500% of the federal poverty level to assist with medical treatments.

Latino Victory Fund hosted its 3rd Annual Latino Political Summit on January 14th in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Chef, philanthropist and Nobel Peace prize-nominee Chef José Andrés and Lin-Manuel Miranda were among the headliners in the summit. The organization also welcomed Secretary Julián Castro to the summit following his presidential campaign announcement.

The Stand by Me Foundation has been created in an effort to help swimmers become champions. The focus of this non-profit charity is to support American athletes who often receive little to no financial aid, grow the sport of swimming, as well as promote water safety.
When The Carter Center assumed leadership of the Guinea Worm Eradication Program in 1986, there were an estimated 3.5 million human cases annually in 21 countries in Africa and Asia. Just 28 human cases of Guinea worm disease were reported in 2018, down slightly from 30 cases reported in 2017.

Members of Accountability PA seized the stage at an awards ceremony held by the secretive PA Medical Cannabis Society, a banquet State Senator Daylin Leach was scheduled to appear as keynote speaker. Leach has been accused by eight women and three men of sexual harassment and groping. He is also accused of raping then-seventeen year-old Cara Taylor in 1991.

The New School today announced the public phase of its New Century Campaign, the largest campus-wide fundraising effort in its history. The university has set a goal to raise $250 million to mark The New School’s Centennial anniversary as a dynamic center for scholars, artists, and activists.
Applications for the 2019 L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program are now open and will close on February 1st. The L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program honors female scientists at a critical stage in their careers with grants of $60,000 each.
Rasmuson Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2019 Individual Artist Awards. Applications will be accepted until midnight on March 1st.
The Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation is awarding scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year. Scholarship applications are now available for the more than $150,000 available to area students.
