United Way of Henderson County launches Volunteer Matching Program, AJ Fletcher Foundation awards grants totaling $575,000 to seven nonprofit organizations, The Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina to host ninth annual Power of the Purse & Pretties raffle and silent auction, and more.

1-16-2017-oc-arts-commission_revisedOrange County Arts Commission awarded $25,440 for area projects to 14 schools, 7 nonprofits and 2 artists. 

The Foundation for a Healthy High Point awarded over $5.4 million for support projects to 21 organizations in 2016.

The Duke Energy Foundation awarded an $18,076 grant to provide professional development and expand access to hands-on science curricula for every 6th and 7th grade teacher in Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools. This grant expands on a project with the Center for Inquiry-Based Learning and the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, which supports Columbus and Whiteville 7th and 8th grade teachers with professional development and hands-on kits. 

The AJ Fletcher Foundation Board of Directors approved grants to seven nonprofit organizations, totaling $575,000, including multi-year grants. The recipients are Dress for Success – Going Places Network; The Fletcher of Academy School of Achievement, Inc. – General Operating Support; Hope Reins – Capital Expansion; North Carolina Museum of Art – Art in the Environment Fund; Salvation Army – General Operating Support; Urban Ministries – General Operating Support;  and WakeEd Partnership – Public Education Consortium.

State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members have renewed the 2017 SECU Foundation “People Helping People” High School and Community College Scholarship program, allocating over $5 million for North Carolina’s college-bound students. Since launching the program thirteen years ago, the member-funded SECU Foundation has made a cumulative investment to date of nearly $57 million.

Durham Rescue Mission will donate free warm, winter clothing to those that sought emergency shelter during Operation RESCUE: Warm Shelter. 

Natty Greene’s Brewing Company and Triad Health Project partnered for a “Good Works Wednesday” event on January 11th to raise funds for those affected by HIV/AIDS. 

Women United launched a drive to collect toys, clothes, and other gifts on December 5th for roughly 50 children at Upward Elementary School in Henderson, NC. 

The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation has named Dr. Sheila Davies the new president of the advisory board. Dr. Davies is the director of public health for the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services and the mayor of the Town of Kill Devil Hills.

United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce named recipients of their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards on January 10 at the 7th Annual State of Arts and Culture in Wake County at the NC Museum of Art. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the arts in our area by businesses, organizations and individuals.

Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Giuliani has tendered his resignation to accept a leadership position with Central Florida’s newly created economic development/chamber of commerce group in Orlando. Giuliani will serve in his current role until Friday, March 3. Senior Vice President and General Manager Janet Carr will continue to manage the operations of the Chamber if a replacement has not been named by March 3.

United Way of Henderson County, with support in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County, has launched the Volunteer Matching Program through their website. The program aims to be a one-stop shop to connect potential volunteers with nonprofit agencies in Henderson.

Tickets are now on sale for the Guilford Green Foundation Red Party which will take place February 25 at The Public in Greensboro.

Raleigh and Durham city mayors will join Wells Fargo, NeighborWorks America, and DHIC to start a $5 million NeighborhoodLIFT program for local homebuyers. The program will be held on February 3-4 at the Hilton North Raleigh/Midtown. 

The Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina will host the ninth annual Power of the Purse & Pretties raffle and silent auction on February 4 at Arts of the Albemarle in Elizabeth City.

YNPN Triangle will hold an “Inspiring Capital 2017 Triangle Kick off” at RTP on January 18th. 

United Arts Council held their 2017 State of the Arts and Culture in Wake County Meeting on January 10th. 

CTNC AmericCorps and Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association held a volunteer event for MLK day on January 16th to help transform the Pearl Mill Preserve into a model pollinator.

The 11th Annual Lupus Mardi Gras Gala will be held in Charlotte on March 4th. 

WomenNC and Durham County Commission for Women is holding a “Durham Local to Global Women’s Forum” on February 23rd. 

LeadershipNC Forum registration is now open. The event will take place on January 26th in Durham. 

Lucy Daniels Center will hold “Cooking for A Classic Chef Competition” from February 20-March 7 to benefit the organization. 

Advance Community Health and WakeMed Health and Hospitals are holding “Wellness Saturday: Taking Care of Mind & Body at Every Stage of Life” on Saturday, January 21 from 10 am-2pm at 1011 Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh.

TheGifted Arts Inc partnered with the Women’s Federation for World Peace of NC, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force of Cary, and the Universal Peace Federation of NC to hold “Putting on the Ritz Gala” on Saturday, January 14. 

The Durham Arts Council’s Creative Arts in Public/Private Schools (CAPS) program is accepting applications for Teaching Artists and Presenters to provide arts integrated programs in K-12 schools and the community. The application deadline is Friday, January 27, 2017. 

Registration for Camp Corral‘s 2017 summer camps is now open. Camp Corral provides a week of free summer camp for children of wounded, ill, injured or fallen military service members.

The American Heart Association, in partnership with Cornerstone Health Care, will host the first-ever High Point Healthy For Good Expo at High Point University’s Oak Hollow Mall on Saturday, February 18.
