Orange County Arts Commission awarded $25,440 for area projects to 14 schools, 7 nonprofits and 2 artists.
The Foundation for a Healthy High Point awarded over $5.4 million for support projects to 21 organizations in 2016.
The Duke Energy Foundation awarded an $18,076 grant to provide professional development and expand access to hands-on science curricula for every 6th and 7th grade teacher in Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools. This grant expands on a project with the Center for Inquiry-Based Learning and the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, which supports Columbus and Whiteville 7th and 8th grade teachers with professional development and hands-on kits.
The AJ Fletcher Foundation Board of Directors approved grants to seven nonprofit organizations, totaling $575,000, including multi-year grants. The recipients are Dress for Success – Going Places Network; The Fletcher of Academy School of Achievement, Inc. – General Operating Support; Hope Reins – Capital Expansion; North Carolina Museum of Art – Art in the Environment Fund; Salvation Army – General Operating Support; Urban Ministries – General Operating Support; and WakeEd Partnership – Public Education Consortium.
State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) members have renewed the 2017 SECU Foundation “People Helping People” High School and Community College Scholarship program, allocating over $5 million for North Carolina’s college-bound students. Since launching the program thirteen years ago, the member-funded SECU Foundation has made a cumulative investment to date of nearly $57 million.

The Currituck-Dare Community Foundation has named Dr. Sheila Davies the new president of the advisory board. Dr. Davies is the director of public health for the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services and the mayor of the Town of Kill Devil Hills.
United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce named recipients of their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards on January 10 at the 7th Annual State of Arts and Culture in Wake County at the NC Museum of Art. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the arts in our area by businesses, organizations and individuals.
Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Giuliani has tendered his resignation to accept a leadership position with Central Florida’s newly created economic development/chamber of commerce group in Orlando. Giuliani will serve in his current role until Friday, March 3. Senior Vice President and General Manager Janet Carr will continue to manage the operations of the Chamber if a replacement has not been named by March 3.

United Way of Henderson County, with support in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of Henderson County, has launched the Volunteer Matching Program through their website. The program aims to be a one-stop shop to connect potential volunteers with nonprofit agencies in Henderson.
