The Legacy Program of the Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee has awarded US$ 2 million in grants to 56 Los Angeles organizations focusing their work on youth development, jobs and economic opportunity, and social justice. Each grant will support the Champions Live Here initiative through funding from the NFL Foundation, the Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee, the LA84 Foundation, and the Play Equity Fund.

The US government provided US$ 100,000 (81 million MWK) in international disaster assistance funding to meet immediate humanitarian needs resulting from the flooding in southern Malawi from Tropical Cyclone Ana.

Colgate University trustee emeritus Chase Carey and his family donated US$ 25 million to fund a comprehensive renovation of the school’s aging athletic center, support the university’s club rugby program, and for Colgate’s Center for Freedom and Western Civilization.

The Government of Japan is providing emergency assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency to Zambia to support victims of the flood disaster. The flood disaster occurred in the Republic of Zambia due to heavy rains since mid-January 2022 and the Tropical Cyclone Ana, which has resulted in affecting about 38,000 people.

Lifestyle retailer MINISO raised US$ 153,300 in its global fundraising effort with Peruvian NGO ECOAN (Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos) for a reforestation program in the Andes mountains. Funds from the ‘Take Penpen Home’ campaign will go towards planting 115,000 trees over the next 15 months, as part of a solution for long-term climate resilience.

The FirstEnergy Foundation donated US$ 250,000 to Alvernia University to help fund its new engineering program at Reading CollegeTowne, a major economic development initiative to help revitalize the Penn Street corridor.

Purina and RedRover awarded five Purple Leash Project grants to help local domestic violence shelters make pet-friendly transformations. Funding will provide pet-friendly upgrades and resources to survivors and their pets at each shelter, including outdoor pet play yards, kennels, supplies and veterinary care.

Freelance journalists Julian Brave NoiseCat and Ryan Christopher Jones were each awarded the 2022 American Mosaic Journalism Prize of US$ 100,000 by the Heising-Simons Foundation for their work reporting on underrepresented or misrepresented groups in the United States.

Educator and justice advocate Dr. Robert S. Harvey was named the first president of FoodCorps. Dr. Harvey will work closely with FoodCorps’ Chief Executive Officer to co-lead the organization and propel them towards their 2030 goals.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America named Floyd Ferjuste, Vice President of Retail Sales, South Division, PepsiCo Beverages North America, and Ryan Detert, CEO of Influential, as its newest board members.

The International Women’s Media Foundation appointed Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist and Craig Newmark Philanthropies, to its Board of Directors.

The National Book Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced the inaugural winners of the Science + Literature awards, $10,000 honors for books, fiction or nonfiction, that wed technology and the arts. The winners are Daisy Hernández’s “The Kissing Bug: A True Story of a Family, an Insect, and a Nation’s Neglect of a Deadly Disease”; Linda Hogan’s “The Radiant Lives of Animals,” a blend of poetry and prose; and Rachel Pastan’s “In the Field: A Novel,” inspired by the life of Nobel-winning cytogeneticist Barbara McClintock.

NSF International President and Chief Executive Officer Kevan P. Lawlor has decided to retire in 2022. Pedro Sancha will become the organization’s next President and CEO.

The Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, Inc. elected Cynthia Cardona as its president. Additionally, Lilly has selected Cardona to serve as senior director of social impact for the company.

The Elevate Prize Foundation named George and Amal Clooney the second-ever recipients of The Elevate Prize Catalyst Award for their work with the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

The Singapore-based Mars Panda NFT Charity Auction in support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has launched over 30 NFTs from digital and fine arts artists, NFT influencers, and professional footballers. Proceeds from the charity auction will be donated to UNHCR in support of vulnerable displaced families affected by the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The auction will close on March 4th.

United Nations teams are working with national authorities in Madagascar to provide emergency relief and support following Tropical Cyclone Batsirai. The storm, which made landfall on February 5th, left more than 43,000 newly displaced across around 180 sites across the island nation.

Freedom 2 Flourish (F2F) is launching a social impact initiative connecting underserved communities with hourly employment. F2F is presently working closely with refugee resettlement agencies and nonprofits to streamline employment placement and assist in finding meaningful work for those rebuilding their lives.

The World Bank has approved a financing package to improve the investment climate, expand sustainable access to finance, and increase the efficiency of trade in Liberia. The Liberia Investment, Finance, and Trade (LIFT) project, financed by the International Development Association in the amount of US$ 40 million ($20 million grant and $20 million credit), is the first World Bank financing project in a generation to support Liberia’s private and financial sectors and the first such for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Central Bank of Liberia.

The Foundation for Climate Restoration published its white paper entitled, Climate Restoration: Achieving a Safe and Healthy Climate by 2050, which explores how we can remove excess carbon from the atmosphere to restore the climate for future generations.
