The Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation awards $1,440 in local grants, Chatham, Durham and Rowan counties join the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, The Youth Justice Project launches steering committee, and more.

The Golden LEAF Foundation received $30 million in funding from the State of North Carolina in June 2017, Golden LEAF is once again ready to help local government and nonprofit organizations recovering from Hurricane Matthew, tropical storms Julia and Hermine and the 2016 western wildfires.

The Guilford Green Foundation awarded grants to three local nonprofits to support efforts to serve seniors, LGBTQIA youth, and the transgender community.

North Carolina Community Foundation recently allocated a second round of funding from the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund to affiliate foundations serving the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Matthew. The latest allocation totals about $207,500 and will go to 15 NCCF affiliates serving the parts of eastern North Carolina that are still recovering.

The Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation awarded $1,440 in local grants from its community grantmaking fund. This year recipients include: Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program for Meals on Wheels- Hyde Count and the Open Door Community Center for general operating support.

The Mint Museum recently acquired The Fly by Vincente Hernández, the piece is located at Mint Museum Uptown on the Mezzanine level, next to the elevators. 

Chatham, Durham and Rowan counties are joining the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading with more than 300 communities across the nation to increase early reading proficiency.

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences will show “Jaws” on the big screen as part of Final Friday on August 25th. The event will feature the science of shark behavior with an ichthyologist and peruse shark-related science stations.

North Carolina Arts Council is partnering with The Center for Craft Creativity and Design to host a public event in honor of Jane Chu, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, who is making her first official trip to North Carolina. 

Students Action with Farmworkers held its 25th End of Summer Celebration. The event had over 150 attendees to enjoy local food, musical acts, a theater performance, the unveiling of our 25-year history timeline and readers’ theater, and a story shared by SAF board chair José Morales.

Durham Independent Dance Artists announced the fourth season of new dance works produced in Durham. The 2017-18 season consists of 9 evening-length premieres, plus a launch performance/party and first split bill evening.

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity dedicated four houses in its Arden subdivision on August 11th.

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy recently worked with the town of Weaverville to protect 310 acres around the town’s watershed. 

The Collider hosted The Collider Day on August 25th at Diamond Brand Outdoors, where 10% of all sales were donated to the organization.

Two North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment Justice Funds were dedicated on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the N.C. Bar Center in Cary. The Justice Funds honor two longtime High Point attorneys, James F. “Jim” Morgan and his father, the late James V. “J. V.” Morgan. Lake View Plaza Pavers were also dedicated in honor of the Morgans and their granddaughter and daughter, Monroe attorney Lea E. Morgan.

Leadership Triangle Alumni Network is hosting the Inaugural THRiVE Leadership Summit at the Raleigh Convention Center on December 5th

The annual MO>E Action Day, a one-day, community-wide event to deliver services for people who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless will take place on Saturday, August 26th from at Monument of Praise Ministries Campus.

Join YNPN Triangle for Team Work Makes the Dream Work: Efficient and Effective Teams on August 23rd. Attendees will use their teamwork and communication skills to complete a team building challenge.

WakeEd Partnership‘s Stars of Education Presented by PNC Bank will honor Doug McMillan, CEO of YMCA of the Triangle as the 2017 Friend of Education on October 18th. 

The Triangle 9/11 Day of Service, hosted by Activate Good, will be held on September 11th at Red Hat Amphitheater. The day of volunteerism will benefit over 40 causes in the Triangle area. 

The Arc of the Triangle will hold a Casino Night fundraiser on February 24th, 2018 at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh and is currently looking for sponsors for the event.  

AFP NC Triad will hold its monthly meeting on September 26th, with a presentation on “Creating a Prospect Research & Donor Management team in 2017.”

Registration is now open for attendees for the 2017 Chapel Hill Caregiver Summit, the event will take place on August 22nd. 

The Charlotte Post Foundation will hold a “Thankful Thursday Giving” at Three Spirits Brewery in Charlotte on August 31st to raise money for the organization. 

The Youth Justice Project, a project of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, is launching a steering committee in order to amplify the voices of young people who are passionate about ending the school-to-prison pipeline. Durham residents ages 14-21 years old can submit applications by September 1.

Durham Rescue Mission’s Back-to-School Pep Rally & Backpack Give-away will take place Wednesday, August 23 at 9:00 AM at their Center for Hope in Durham.

Read and Feed will celebrate their 10th anniversary on November 3rd at the Merrimon-Wynne House in Raleigh.
