The American Heart Association’s 2019 Winston-Salem Heart Ball

The American Heart Association’s 2019 Winston-Salem Heart Ball raised $218,000 for heart disease and stroke research and prevention education.

The National Parent Teacher Association has awarded North Carolina PTA with a two-year grant to educate parents on school report cards and empower them to advocate to ensure this data is accessible, transparent and actionable. NCPTA is one of only five state PTAs nationwide selected to receive this grant.

The Barnabas Network’s Spring Warehouse Furniture Sale Fundraiser raised more than $50,000. All proceeds from the sale help fund services to families who are transitioning out of homelessness, recovering from a major setback, fleeing abuse or violence, or overcoming severe poverty.

The Me Fine Foundation’s fourth annual Music For Me Fine event presented by Southern First Bank raised nearly $90,000 for children and their families receiving care at Duke, UNC, and WakeMed Children’s Hospitals.

The Triangle branch of United Way has gifted $3.5 million of funding to 59 local nonprofits and collaboratives that submitted proposals to a rigorous, community-led RFP process — the first of its kind for the Triangle’s United Way.

The Shore Grief Center’s founder Carolyn Zahnow is stepping down as the Center’s Executive Director. Board member Anthony “Tony” Ivosic will be taking over the role.

The Women’s Center of Wake County launched their “The Power of Art” workshop to help homeless women express their emotions through art. This workshop is a part of a 7-week series in which local Raleigh artists will help women create original art that will be auctioned online.

Keep Durham Beautiful joined the City of Durham’s Urban Forestry staff on May 31st for a Tree Keeper Training. This training will provide ways for participants to help manage and care for the young urban trees in Durham.

The new members of the North Carolina Community Foundation Affiliate Impact Committee were formally seated for the first committee meeting. The Committee is a standing committee of the statewide board that ensures open engagement between the Foundation and local communities as well as represents the perspectives of affiliate board members to the state board.

International House is launching the Citizen Diplomacy Program’s International Leader Speaker Series in July, 2019. Through the speaker series, the Charlotte community will have access to leaders from 13 countries visiting Charlotte to participate in discussions on corporate social responsibility.

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is now accepting applications for its State-Level Systemic Change Fall 2019 grant cycle. The grant application deadline, a week earlier than in recent years, is July 25th.

Wheels4Hope is seeking volunteers for their Triangle and Triad offices. Volunteer needs include mechanics and drivers to pick up donations, take cars to garages, and get vehicles gassed and inspected. To volunteer for Wheels4Hope click here.

The Isabella Santos Foundation is hosting a week-long platelet drive with OneBlood to honor Isabella Santos. The platelet drive is being held Sunday, June 23 – Saturday, June 29 during the seventh anniversary of Isabella Santos’ passing to celebrate her life and legacy.
