Veterans Legal Services received $20,000 from The Boston Foundation to help fund free legal services to low-income military veterans in the Greater Boston area. 

Publix Super Markets Charities donated $1 million to United Way to support those impacted by financial hardships, including the unexpected loss of income, within Publix’s operating area.

Brett and Louise Samsky and their son Connor Samsky, will make an $11 million donation to establish the Samsky Invasive Cardiovascular Services Center within Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. The $603 million expansion project is set to open in September 2020.

The Pennsylvania Vision Foundation granted $20,000 to programs of partner agencies to support the foundation’s focus on high-quality eyecare.

LiveBeyond, a faith-based, humanitarian organization, received health care products under a grant from the Henry Schein Cares Global Donation Program. The funds allow LiveBeyond to provide care to the general population in Thomazeau, Haiti.

Jeremy Butler will be CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), replacing Paul Rieckhoff who will continue to serve on the board. Butler will present IAVA’s 2019 Policy Agenda before a joint session of Congress in March.

Cheryl Miles was named 2019 Kitchen Table Award Honoree by the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls. Miles will be honored at the 14th Annual Making a Difference Luncheon on May 3rd in Malvern, PA.

Dr. William Bell was elected Board Chair for National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association. Dr. Bell is President and CEO of Casey Family Programs. 

Isabelle Fox named Executive Director at Mending Kids. Fox advanced through the organization previously serving as Director of Surgical Missions and Director of Global Outreach.

Vanguard Charitable named Mark Froehlich Chief Financial Officer in January. Froehlich most recently served as CFO of The Philadelphia Foundation.

The American Hospital Association and its affiliate, the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, launched the Hospital Community Cooperative (HC2)with support from the Aetna Foundation. The goal of this national program is to close gaps in health equity.

The National Hispanic Media Coalition will honor artists, executives and film companies at the 22nd Annual NHMC Impact Awards Gala on Friday, February 22nd in Los Angeles. Honorees are recognized for their outstanding commitment in advancing Latino creatives and artists in media, producing extraordinary Latino-themed content, and contributing positive portrayals of Latinos in media.

Association of Fundraising Professionals launched a mentoring and development program for women designed to provide support and guidance to women in fundraising with an interest in securing senior-level positions.

New England International Donors (NEID) will host a forum on Tuesday, February 12th at The Boston Foundation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The topic is “Working to Support the Social Sector in Cuba.” NEID members-only. Register to attend or learn more.

United Way establishes the United for U.S. Fund to benefit federal workers, contractors and others impacted by the government shutdown.

Leaders from Robin Hood and the Russell Sage Foundation will host No City Limits: Reimagining the Poverty Fight on February 4th in New York. This year’s theme is “Mobility from Poverty: Moving from Ideas to Action.” 

The Audre Lorde Project seeks volunteers to support programs for NYC’s members of the LGBTSTGNC community. Learn more about the project’s Transjustice Community School and  OUTSiderz Series: Adult First Aid Workshop on Friday, February 8th. 

Highland Street Foundation and the Music Drives Us Foundation will partner together, with support from the Boch Center in New England, to provide grants for the annual ArtWeek festival that takes place April 26th through May 5th. Forty recipients will be selected to receive a $250 performance grant to support the presentation of their event. The final deadline to submit and event to ArtWeek is Friday, February 22nd. Submissions meeting criteria will be considered for a Music Drives Us award. 

Tangent Points is offering Grant Writing Strategy Session 101 on February 22nd at the Tangent Point Training Center in Los Angeles from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Register for this survey course on the proposal writing and development process.

The UL Innovative Education Award is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations working to advance environmental and STEM education, sustainable communities and youth empowerment.  Award winners receive gifts of $100,000, $50,000 or $25,000 and join a growing network of past winners including Techbridge Girls and Ocean Discovery InstituteApplications are being accepted through the March 12th.

American Water is accepting applications for 2019 environmental grants to fund projects that will improve, restore or protect watersheds, surface water or groundwater supplies through partnerships. Submit an application and ensure postmark by March 29th.

Mina Guli, Founder and CEO of Thirst, will be featured at the Ceres Conference in San Francisco on May 29th through May 1st. Mina will talk about her mission to run 100 marathons in 100 days to bring awareness to the global water crisis. 

The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation invites proposals for 2019 funding from the  Hillman Innovations in Care Program. Two, three-year grants of up to $600,000 each are made  to nursing-driven, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered initiatives. See request for proposal details.

The HealthWell Foundation has opened a new fund to provide copayment and premium assistance to Medicare patients living with nontuberculous mycobacterium. Up to $2,000 in financial assistance will be granted to eligible patients who have annual household incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level. See Fund information.

The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund for visual storytellers is now accepting applications for its 40th annual Grant in Humanistic Photography. The fund will provide more than $50,000 in grants,  fellowships, and special awards with one recipient receiving a $35,000 grant to complete their project.
