MetLife Foundation and Marbles Kids Museum are continuing their partnership to spark imaginative, innovative play. A new grant will help Marbles refresh Stepnotes, its popular musical staircase made possible by a 2015 grant from MetLife Foundation.

Susan G. Komen made an additional investment of nearly $26 million to fund 62 new research projects that seek to answer some of the toughest questions facing breast cancer. The grants include $2,011,500 in new funding for research at three institutions in North Carolina, bringing Komen’s total research investment in North Carolina to $43,617,501 since 1982.

Oakbridge Financial Group, LLC, raised nearly $15,000 for  the Me Fine Foundation in a single night at the City of Raleigh Museum on August 30. 

CASA’s 5th Annual Cabin for CASA Memorial Fundraiser on September 20th raised over $115,000 to support CASA’s affordable housing mission.

The NeighborHealth Center held its official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony September 27th in Raleigh. NeighborHealth is a new faith-based community health center providing primary care for all ages and welcoming patients with or without insurance. It is accessible to an area of high need in western and central Raleigh where no other safety-net clinic exists.

The Hill Center is changing its name to The Hill Learning Center. The update is part of their 40th anniversary celebration, which also includes an updated website, logo and vision.

To mark Hunger Action Month, Smithfield Foods employees collected more than 45,000 pounds of non-perishable goods for local foodbanks across the country.

The Asheville Habitat ReStore named the winners of its seventh annual ReStore ReUse Contest. A panel of five judges selected winners in six categories: Furniture, Homesteading, Live/Work Space, Home Décor, Youth, and Best in Show.

A king of the swing era of big band music, Kay Kyser, will be recognized with a N.C. Highway Historical Marker, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. in his hometown of Rocky Mount.

For seven-nights in November,  Moonlight in the Garden will illuminate and showcase JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University. Sponsored by the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation , the Exhibition dates include a special Preview Night on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, from 7 to 9 p.m.; plus, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights Nov. 8th-10th and Nov. 15th-17th from 6 to 9 p.m.

Burning Coal Theatre Company‘s  Artistic Director, Jerome Merritt Davis, will receive the 2018 Raleigh Medal of Arts Award.

The North Carolina Center for Nonprofits‘ 2018 conference, Power Play: Disruption for Good, has been rescheduled for November 27th and 28th. 

In celebration of October as North Carolina Archaeology Month, a series of free lectures will be presented by the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology on a broad range of subjects, including the underwater coastal heritage of North Carolina, history of channel improvements in the Cape Fear River, and Moravian pottery production in Old Salem.

The NC Rural Center will host Scott Hamilton, the executive director of the Appalachian Regional Commission, as a keynote speaker for this year’s NC Rural Assembly, which is being held at the Hilton North Raleigh on November 15th-16th. 

Leaders from The Winston-Salem Foundation, United Way of Forsyth County, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, and other local grantors will hold a forum on the 2019 Joel and Claudette Weston Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management on Monday, October 22nd in Winston Salem.

The Triangle Community Foundation will hold three Coffee with Community Foundation events in October:  Friday, October 5th at 9 am Friday, October 12th at 9 am and Friday, October 19th at 9 am.

The North Carolina Planned Giving Council will host guest speaker Al Cantor at Elon University on Thursday, November 29th. Registration is open now.

Dorcas Ministries will be accepting donations for victims of Hurricane Florence including water, toiletries and diapers through October 3rd at 187 High House Road in Cary.

The Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge’s 2018 Benefit for the Animals will be held on October 6th. Tickets are available now.

AFP NC Triad Chapter is offering three scholarship opportunities for AFP Membership. AFP will award one scholarship for Professional Membership and two for Young Professional Membership. Both opportunities require the candidate to complete a scholarship application and to have a current member sponsor their application.

The Junior League of Raleigh is offering a unique shopping experience while raising money for nonprofit programs in Wake County. A Shopping SPREE! will host more than 180 regional and national exhibitors at the Raleigh Convention Center Oct. 18th-21st.

WakeEd Partnership is selling raffle tickets for a chance to see the musical Hamilton in Durham on Thursday, November 15th. 

The Elliott Bowles Screenwriters Scholarship will allow up to four aspiring screenwriters to attend the annual Fall Conference of the North Carolina Writers’ Network from November 2–4. The deadline to apply is October 12, 2018.
